Exactly this. I'm radically pro bodily autonomy, but don't think if I were an MP that I'd be able to vote for this bill.

Think an Aussie so even less of a leg to stand on than someone from the USA in terms of emissions per capita...

Just to ask re point 2, are you exempting yourself from membership of the human race? Are you some kind of... educated porpoise?

One of my favourite ever bands has just been added to the lineup of a festival I'm going to in November!!! I'm so so happy

Bourton-on-the-water just makes me think of the iconic This Country scene where Kerry explains how she's banned from the tearooms there Enemies Everywhere: The Hilarious Adventures of Kerry and Kurtan | TikTok share.google/5tk1lkrKDjRc...

Oh no need to apologise at all :) I knew it wasn't malicious at all. It just shows how insidious the antis are!

Totally agree with your point. Just to note that "late-term" is a phrase used by antichoice groups, as they think it is emotive/persuasive/more likely to bring to mind a pregnancy that's further along. Prochoice campaigners generally just say "late" abortion :)

We will be there! Despite me not being a huge Maiden fan πŸ˜… big Essex contingent going!

??? Calamari or octopus rings are a far more common appetiser. Weird thing to claim. Well, it's been tedious, byeeee!

I'm sure it's on the menu in some pubs (prob true of any dish you care to name tbh) - I can't recall seeing it, though. & I certainly wouldn't say the quiche (!) is a central component of UK pub grub. It's just not something that comes to mind. But sure, call me a liar, that's great!
comment in response to post
Not that I can recall, no! Closest thing probably goat's cheese tart in a gastropub but that's not quite the same.

I thought it was implied with the printed-out version you imagined being clutched by a US tourist. On re-reading, that *could* be one way to take your skeet, but might not be, so apologies if indeed that's not what you meant. (I still don't get the "adorable" thing, though.)

You said something I know is wrong, I disagreed with your statement, you implicitly criticised my choice of punctuation, I restated for clarity, and here we are. Seems simple enough (?).

I genuinely don't get that at all. Given that it's aimed at people unfamiliar with pub culture, I really don't see how it could be improved upon. (Maybe remove the perfectly cromulent but jargon-y term wet pub, to save potential confusion, but that's about it.)
comment in response to post
Oh you got me! Fine. No, it's not.
comment in response to post
No it's not?
comment in response to post
Ok, ask CNN to amend the photo or the caption, and correct Old Peculier, and I genuinely don't think there's anything else objectionable in the piece πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
comment in response to post
Can you specifically point to the bits that would be misleading for someone new to pubs to follow?
comment in response to post
I mean, wasn't pub culture included in those (godawful) life in the UK tests that would-be citizens are forced to take? Anything that helps visitors enjoy pubs is fine in my book :)
comment in response to post
I'd imagine that what happened is the author spelled it correctly then the subs' desk looked at it, thought it was a mistake, and "corrected" it.

But the caption is accurate, even if it doesn't apply to the pub pictured. The author also will usually have nothing to do with the pictures either.
comment in response to post
Honestly it's a perfectly normal term? This article was shared in the GC for my beer club and no one had any issues with it
comment in response to post
Can you point to the parts of the article which are inaccurate or which would lead to the type of inappropriate behaviour you describe?
comment in response to post
Sounds like a "you" issue tbh
comment in response to post
My local has free cheese around Christmas. Honestly there's nothing inaccurate at all in the piece (except the wrong spelling of Old Peculier, which I imagine was "corrected" by the subs).
comment in response to post
Oh you're just that type of utter arsehole. Naff off

Know much about life in the UK, do you?

I think it was either kill or cure wrt Poster's Madness. Many forums posters succumbed, but to the rest of us they served as useful examples.

Does the line "in a 7 second clip" not concern you even slightly? Does that not automatically make you think, hmm, I wonder what context is being occluded here? Was the professor perhaps being sarcastic? Jumping straight to conclusions (as you have) seems pretty unwise!

Omg me too. I never managed to make it through a whole episode. My family LOVED it and I always had to leave the room when it was on. The insufferable smugness made me feel like screaming.

Doesn't that make them more likely to be engaged in the radicalised 3%er style militia mindset?

Kat's original post literally says "killed and expelled". Did you not read it?

I thought I'd plumbed the depths of my loathing for that pair, but clearly new lows were yet to be reached. The smug glibness and refusal to think about other people as being actually human and suffering on such a vast scale. Truly monstrous.
