This is Donald Trump weaponizing the federal government to terrorize communities. I stand in solidarity with people of good conscience peacefully standing up to protect their neighbors.

See? If I simply *accurately describe* their behavior, I sound like an insane person. Anyway, here's the story www.thefp.com/p/exclusive-...

You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse. Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

Dem senator: Please, protestors, there are better ways to oppose the president Voters: Like not voting for his nominees? Dem senator: haha no no no. No. What I mean is we are writing a rap

How extreme is the June 7 Memorandum on federalizing the National Guard? One of several issues: It has NO geographic limit. None. No mention of California or any other state. It's open-ended. Now this from President Trump: "Well, we're going to have troops everywhere."⬇️

There is no mass-deportation campaign going on right now. Deportation is a process. This is kidnapping and human trafficking.

Still waiting for the article that’s like “these right wing militia members are in a bubble and it would be healthier if they exposed themselves to left wing ideas”

Alex Jones spent the last 30 years being like "MARTIAL LAW IS COMIN BECAUSE THE DEEP STATE JADE HELM ILLUMINATIIII" and now it's here and his place could not be more in favor of it.

L’Etat, c’est moi

Wild to watch her post-presidential-bid evolution back to her conservative roots after years of being one of the most progressive in the Senate www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

it's absolutely important to couch every statement from this guy in the context that he hired a person based solely on the credential that the guy strangled one of my neighbors to death. no background in software or finance, just murder.

"In essence, when it comes to protests, this means that the media is biased toward the status quo." www.niemanlab.org/2020/06/its-...

I… huh? What are the police firing back at

So does she realize that this is what she signed up for and decide to change her approach to endorsements, or just continue to rally behind the most extreme Republicans? www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...

No one should be using the term "less lethal" when referring to the missiles and projectiles shot at protesters unless you are content doing PR for cops.

Excellent headline

This is part of what drives me nuts about the trajectory of the abundance conversation. It is entirely intuitive to link a major building and infrastructure program with a sort of left-populist, antifascist politics. It’s actually necessary! Also, FDR did it already!

One argument I tried to make to centrist, right-leaning folks during 2024 was that if you really hate street protest and unrest and chaos, then you should absolutely not vote for Donald Trump, because he 100% guarantees more.

Join us tomorrow at this solidarity rally at Boston City Hall Plaza calling for the immediate release of SEIU California president David Huerta and an end to ICE raids.

“Motivated by love of country” nah Stephen Miller has been on the record as being motivated by hate since he was literally in high school.

Parents and teachers in southern California are urgently asking for help to find a fourth grader who is being “held captive” by immigration authorities in Texas.

looks like an objective assessment to me

If the boot fits...

Democrats reinforce this problem when they talk about their agreement with “deporting violent criminals” instead of emphasizing what is actually happening.

The Israeli defense minister is openly threatening the life of GretaThunberg and other unarmed peace activists on an aid ship. Where the f**k are the world’s leaders? The world’s media?

Someone ask Lankford if it’s okay to fly an Israeli flag.

Trump has federalized at least 2,000 National Guard forces and reportedly plans to deploy troops to Los Angeles over Governor Newsom’s objections. If that happens, it will be the first time since 1965 that a president has sent troops into a state without a state request. 1/19

Seeing a massive divide online between Angelenos of all political stripes who understand that the protests in LA yesterday were mostly peaceful and any violence was ICE-initiated and East Coast establishment liberals lecturing “the left” on how riots just amplify right wing talking points.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

So the fellow police officer is the one who pulled the trigger, but someone else is being charged? Twisted justice system

“But if people don't think it is dangerous criminals who are the focus of the deportation effort, support drops dramatically. The survey was completed just prior to Saturday's protests and events in Los Angeles.”

I'm not sure Democratic elected officials should even be admonishing demonstrators. They don't have any real relationship to the party. They're not like heading to the DNC in 2028. They're not precinct captains. I suspect these admonishments just reenforce Republican frames.

One apparent reason why GOP legislators are getting cold feet about proof of citizenship laws for voter registration: They’re worried about disenfranchising their own voters, advocates say. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

For Republicans, every government action is tyranny except for actual tyranny, which is good.

what strikes me about stephen miller's presidential memorandum is the utterly Fox News-esque way in which "rebellion" is used to describe events that are nothing of the sort. indeed, "Fox News-esque" is probably too soft. it's deranged, paranoid fantasy.

For some reason, I was just thinking about how Trump’s former chief of staff tried to warn us right before the election that Trump was a fascist who wanted to rule us like a dictator … and the New York Times put that story on page A12

Seems like most people on here are anti-evil. That's the kind of insular groupthink that loses elections :/

nextdoor has taken a turn against ice, which is probably not a good sign (for ice)

Welcome to America, where protesting illegal kidnappings without due process is an insurrection, but attacking the nation’s Capitol is not.
