The book now has a cover! (And some very kind blurbs by @ayates.bsky.social & @andydenninghist.bsky.social) Check it out if you want to learn about how the French made the balloon into one of the quintessential artifacts of fin-de-siècle modernity. More info at mitpress.mit.edu/978026254980...

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library exists with her own funding, in addition to state funding. States, such as Indiana, are beginning to cut such funding. Her library program gifts FREE BOOKS TO CHILDREN. We ride at dawn for Dolly Parton, always. Thank you for your book joy💛 tinyurl.com/DollyYahoo

17 states have sued the United States government, asking to get rid of Section 504—which protects people with disabilities from discrimination in health care and human services. The case is called Texas v. Becerra, and @dredf.bsky.social has info and action items. dredf.org/protect-504/

La donation de Jeffrey et Carol Horvitz offrira aux visiteurs un accès inédit à la plus vaste collection de maîtres anciens français aux États-Unis. Par Torey Akers.

This commission statement refers to people with Autism, ADHD, asthma, auto-immune disease, and chronic illness as a “dire threat to the American people and our way of life”. This is a manifesto against disability. This is the language of eugenics.

A recent US presidential EO "refers to autism and other disabilities as 'a dire threat to the American people & our way of life.' This is fundamentally inaccurate. Autistic people have always been here, including before America existed. We aren’t new." autisticadvocacy.org/2025/02/asan... 1/2

Condoms, IUDs removed from Indiana bill seeking to expand birth control access

This.

All of the attacks on "DEI" is about resegregating folks in various ways, either by denying marginalized folks from professional opportunities, and thus relegating them to menial labor, or denying marginalized folks service jobs and relegating them to, presumably, unemployment or more exploited jobs

Eric, with my book on autism in France is about to appear, I can tell you that autistic people in France are frustrated with the lack of diagnosis opportunities there compared to the US. This statement also looped autism in with physical disabilities and diseases, so there's that too.

“While my son’s autism became more obvious around the time he was getting most of his vaccines, there was zero evidence of a regression or an autistic traits explosion after the shots. The timing was a coincidence. Nothing more.” Reposting, please share. thinkingautismguide.com/2024/12/why-...

Trump's proposal to get rid of the Department of Education comes just as conservatives elected officials and intellectuals are diminishing the need for special education or saying that students with disabilities are faking it. Great jessgrose.bsky.social piece. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/o...

@doughboys.bsky.social need Wiger’s analysis.

Please help ban LGBTQ conversion therapy! Great news! Éire joins Finland & France as only EU countries to reach the threshold, now 4 more are needed. Closest are Belgium (57%), DK (34%), Germany (34%), NL (48%) & Slovenia (48%). So please share widely: eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

As a parent of two kids with special needs, I'm pretty damn excited to know that a racist billionaire who routinely uses the slur "r*tards" is destroying the federal department that's a bulwark for special education and support for disabled children.

Disability is not a personal or moral failing. Everyone is one accident, infection or stroke of bad luck from becoming disabled. When someone asks for help, give it freely and without strings. Don’t judge them or tell them to “try harder”. One day it’ll be your turn.

I wrote about Jack Posobiec, the intellectual emptiness of the pro-Trump right, and their bizarre—and disingenuous—attempts to co-opt white nationalist thought. My latest for @thebaffler.com: thebaffler.com/latest/unhum...

Today!

Section 504 is a law designed to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities that receive financial assistance from the U.S. Dept. of Ed. I cannot emphasize this enough: Disabled people had to FIGHT for this. Let me tell you about the longest occupation of a federal building in US History 1/

"Autism has always been part of the human community. The reason we don’t think so is because autistic people were kept behind the walls of institutions for most of the 20th century, or they got no diagnosis at all." Per @stevesilberman.bsky.social www.lionsroar.com/neurotribes-... #neurodiversity
