What a terrible third period. I look forward to never thinking about it again. #BU

I've said a lot of mean things about the "Bruins Night" abominations the Red Sox plan to give out for tonight's game, which in a nice thematic twist will feel like it's being played in your freezer. I don't want to pile on, though, so I'll point out the Revolution's "96 Collection" also stinks.

With the Crochet and Campbell extensions, the Red Sox have four pieces of their 2030 roster locked in, among the most in MLB. A franchise that's spent most of the last six years dragging out a payroll reset and playing on “the prospects” hope is, at last, something more tangible again.

The Red Sox traded Quinn Priester this morning, and also put that abomination crossover hockey jersey thing in my email. One of these things should be a crime, and I leave it to you to figure out which one I'm referring to.

Ryan Leonard has been in the NHL a week after signing out of BC. So far: - Debuted at the Garden with all his BC teammates there. - Scored an empty netter to cap the 894 game. - Sees Ovechkin score 895. That's a week.

Ryan Leonard. BC kid ruins everything. Tale as old as time.

Jarren Duran smiling while he talks about how Wally presented him the miniature Wally head is the right kind of energy for an optimistic start to the season.

Fun Fact: That game was three hours on the dot. That used to be what we thought was quick!

Looking forward to the Red Sox 51st anniversary celebration of the 1975 team, which will get started immediately following today's final out.

That "Triston Casas is so annoying even Wally can't put up with it" insurance commercial is gonna hit a little different if this inning goes sideways.

S&P: Bad day. SOX: Good day.

AI art bothers me on a moral level, but if this is the stuff on the other side of the "Do you wanna know the terrifying truth or do you wanna see me sock a few dingers?!" . . .

Sean Newcomb is the 47th Mass.-born pitcher in Red Sox history. Top five by bWAR. 1. Bill Monbouquette - 21.2 (254 games, 1958-65) 2. Danny MacFayden - 13.9 (185, 1926-32) 3. Buck O'Brien - 8.1 (58, 1911-13) 4. Manny Delcarmen - 3.9 (289, 2005-10) 5. Rich Hill - 3.8 (74 G, 2010-12, '15, '22, '24)

A choice for you this morning. "I want to think about Rafael Devers." Here you go! www.bostonglobe.com/2025/03/30/s... "I would prefer not to think about Rafael Devers." Right this way! www.boston.com/sports/bosto... I am a full service whatever the hell I am.

That sound you hear is Boston University slowly becoming Hockey East's only hope.

I want Jason Ross Jr. and Kevin Weekes on the call of every Game 7 going forward until further notice, even if I am 100 percent sure my heart cannot handle it.

I'm gonna think warmly about that UConn kid getting checked into the core of the earth as he was attempting a Michigan goal for the rest of the week.

Weather for the first three Revolution home games of the year: — High 20s, windy — High 20s, windy — Low 40s, gray and spitting rain Can't wait for MLS to adopt the Euro schedule so half the season can be like this!

Bentley 1, BC 1, with 4:20 to go in regulation. I have retrieved the photo from storage, ready for its first Bluesky deployment. Dare to dream.

Minnesota Golden Go-Home. And to think I used to put these gems out at the other place.

"Spring training is overrated." — Wilyer Abreu

Happy Opening Day. An idea that, once again, isn't entirely foreign if you live and die with the fortunes of the Red Sox. www.boston.com/sports/bosto...

It's better. I'm not yet convinced it's good, but progress is progress.

Obviously I work with the guy, but @alexspeier.bsky.social this morning on the Red Sox second base derby is just exactly what I'm looking for out of spring coverage. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/03/20/s...

Hockey East could put six teams in the NCAA Tournament, and a seventh just upset the No. 1 team in the country. Not bad.

In 1963, the Celtics won the title in Bob Cousy's last season . . . for several years. I prefer that 63 to tonight's.

You know those people who go to hockey games and just scream, "SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOOOOOOT!" every time the puck is in the offensive zone? Don't you hate those people? I am now those people while watching the Revolution.

Collected stats for this article. Early days but 2025 #NERevs defense looks better than 2024. Offense, of course, isn’t producing yet. Revs now face Union, who have scored the most goals in MLS (8). The Union also have the most shots against (16) www.theblazingmusket.com/p/how-will-t...

Good piece from Emma on the Fleet, and timely for me I watched them live for the first time last night. Crowd was small, but that's expected on a Wednesday . . . no one draws midweek outside of the Bruins. But there was still a notable energy in the building often lacking in the minors/college.

"Welcome to Foxborough, Massachusetts," the announcer says over a shot of the Boston Harbor Hotel. It's nice that I can still find the motivation to care how stupid this is.

Happy Revolution home opener to those who celebrate.

Two thoughts keep to mind: — Sox need to do what's best for business, but it would be nice if that phrase wasn't shorthand for "be crappy people." — To a lesser degree ... did they feel like they had to be that way with those two guys? Not an impossible thought, frankly.

Bregman thoughts, but also cigar thoughts, which clearly is what you're here for.

Alex Bregman was a real barometer of to what degree Red Sox were willing to compete in 2025. They could've lazily contended for the playoffs without him. Adding him as they did is an actual, concrete statement, and one that doesn't sacrifice their long term plan.

And for the first time all night, I believe BU can win this. No good can come of that feeling.

Take it away, Pat Summerall.

I'm just glad we can all agree, as a military helicopter completes a flyover above a domed stadium, that there is no wasteful spending whatsoever in that sliver of the budget.

Say what you will about the promotion, but this is an elite Jersey Foul. Ugly ain't even the word. @wyshynski.bsky.social

Fay Vincent was baseball's last actual commissioner. Eventually, he was fired because, in trying to put the important thing first, he made the rich people mad. Thank goodness that never happened again in any part of life, right?!

On the Globe's Luka story, someone commented "I’m afraid this might cut into Bronny’s minutes" and it is easily the funniest thing I've seen all day. Sometimes, the simple jokes are the best.

David Ortiz revisiting his "this is our [expletive] city" speech from the heart after the Boston Marathon bombing to pump up a simulator golf team playing in Florida and that has as much to do with the city as Boston Pizza . . . I know nothing's sacred, but good grief.
