I captured this Marbled Godwit the other day looking very pleased with its foraging while making the most of overcast conditions #birds

A surprising sight at Guajome park: a beautiful White-tailed Kite has been hanging out at the top of this eucalyptus for a couple of days, despite regular mobbing by the resident crows. I've only ever seen one at a great distance before, so this was cool to see, despite the stick in the way! #birds

American Pipits are still here - I watched this one foraging in the dew this morning. #birds

Pelicans at sunset #birds

Yesterday I was at LA City Hall with 100s of striking fast food workers Then I drove 300 miles to Yosemite I didn't understand parking, but I got this out of my sunroof while driving! This is what Musk, at best, wants to privatize for profit, and at worst, wants to destroy We wont let them! 🧵

Captured this beautiful Northern Flicker calling from the top of a tree where Ash-throated Flycatchers nested last year - although I did my best to stabilize this video, it's still pretty shaky! I should've brought my tripod, but alas #birds

Diving pelican lit by the sunset filtered through a raincloud #birds

Non-bird shot - saw this coyote a while back munching on some small critter across the parking lot from my car at Wilderness Gardens; very wary of me, but not too wary to not finish its breakfast before scurrying off.

I think this shot from last month is my favorite Ruddy Duck picture I've ever taken. I just got my camera back from Canon for a shutter repair, so hopefully I can brighten people's timelines with more bird photography soon. #birds

same methods, different era

the right seized on a small group of people they thought couldn’t fight back, who they could scapegoat for any and everything, and then likened those people’s freedom to the collapse of the nation—and those in power who said they opposed such things failed to stop them

I had the joy and good fortune of getting to playtest several sessions of Realis, on both sides of the table. I adored the places it pushed me to, and the places we were able to push it in turn. you need this one imo, no question

Sometimes I think high key black-and-white is the only way to make photos taken on a dreary day pop - like this Nuttal's Woodpecker for #WoodpeckerWednesday #birds

A very curious Marsh Wren that, after I took this picture, got so close to my boots that my lens could no longer focus on it - I had to zoom out to 200mm to get this shot! #birds

where does the new york times even find these people

A very fluffy Marsh Wren at sunrise on a cool winter morning #birds

The pet food industry and pet parent consumers are just as susceptible to fad diets as in the human food industry. Raw, grain free, refrigerated - there is no inherent nutritional value for your pet with these. Cheap commercial diets are fine for almost all pets.

The Shearwaters have stuck around Oceanside - it's amazing to watch so many birds swoop and dive in formation. With their dark backs and bright white undersides the flock shimmers as they fly back and forth. #birds

For the past few days, there's been a flock of several thousand Black-vented Shearwaters off the coast, sometimes stretching over a mile. It's been incredible to watch them gather and feed, presumably on the same fish the dolphins and pelicans have been going for lately #birds youtu.be/mhPOlLmfE58

Woo hoo. It was awesome. This is one of Jon’s pictures of “our” dark red tailed hawk in our count area. We had total of 83 species. 🪶

An incredible sight just off the coast this morning. I think these are Black-vented Shearwaters, which are not usually seen up here - thousands and thousands of them! #birds

Christmas Bird Count was yesterday! Had an incredible time with @heaposheep.bsky.social and @socalleslie.bsky.social. Highlights included: Loggerhead Shrike, Tropical Kingbird, Burrowing Owl (!) and an immature male Vermillion Flycatcher. What a blast; can't wait to do it again next year. #birds

From this past Spring - a Black Phoebe parent with an adorably fluffy juvenile #birds

The Guidelines for Safer Pedestrian Crossings project collected data from more than 3,300 crossing events at 18 intersections in Minnesota. The results? Cars traveling faster than 25mph essentially never yield to pedestrians. highways.dot.gov/safety/pedes...

A brave and loud Song Sparrow from the lake shore the other day #birds

Two American Wigeons hanging out at the lake at sunrise #birds

This Ruddy Duck was in the right place at the right time for me to capture it against these sunrise reflections #birds

LETS FUCKING GO: The past several weeks I've been watching eared grebes going after a ton of anchovies about 10 ft below my feet due to a walking bridge being over a local wilderness reserve. I finally got stills of a fish being chased on top of the water several days ago, and today I got video! 🪶

This particular Common Yellowthroat seems to have gotten somewhat used to my presence at the lake; it regularly comes close to see what I'm doing while I'm photographing ducks and other birds on the water #birds

See a Junco, post a Junco! #birds

This Clark's Grebe is also a welcome guest at the lake - it's a little braver than the Eared Grebe, occasionally coming close to the lakeshore to fish. #birds

A young Least Tern for Tern Tuesday! #birds

The adorable Eared Grebe continues at my favorite local lake #birds

Sanderling on a foggy morning at the start of Fall #birds

I have been enjoying the presence of this Eared Grebe at the local lake as fall turns to winter #birds 🪶
