No proprietary plugins. No DRM.
Firefox shouldn’t even have a EULA. Mozilla should be collecting ZERO information from the browser that they cannot collect from httpd logs.
To quote Mozilla co-founder @jwz
“In my humble but correct opinion, Mozilla should be doing two things and two things […]

@rehana Ya — I’m noticing it brings up interesting things but not always recent things.

@jvschrag I was so confused about offense, because I was like - I don't EXPECT them to get it right in one interview. I mean, it took me a while to learn it. And obviously they had the right to the final copy -- they weren't obligated to change anything on my word. No article was about anything […]

@jvschrag Lol, not all that exciting. I did science fairs through high school and went to the International Science & Engineering Fair a few times, which put out press releases. This caused local newspapers to interview me as "local whiz kid" interest stories. I offered to help review their […]

@jvschrag Yes! I kinda had the same response to the writeup … wasn’t quite sure what the author’s position was. And agreed about the boring never being part of the magazine. I’ve seen requests for media contact before and always didn’t answer both because it seemed like I was maybe too boring […]

(cont) Those things are (differently stated by different people):
1. Fuller, more rewarding relationships with friends. When there aren't random arbitrary lines about what friends are "allowed" to do, relationships settle naturally into far more configurations. This feels like it allows all of […]

[mild spoiler for pantheon s2]
I am disappointed in the romantic arc in season 2, though. It honestly just felt bolted on, and I would have liked those two characters to just remain friends.
I guess it’s a truth universally acknowledged that if two cis/het characters of differing genders are […]

@skinnylatte This reminds me of a story I heard from Burning Man a few years ago -- something that shouldn't have caught on fire, and to keep participants away, they put people with megaphones around it saying "This is not art! Stay back."
...Which has the semi-predictable effect in *that* […]

@skinnylatte I don’t generally think of Seattle as particularly ahead of anyone on permitting, wonder what’s different with SF?
Also, not sure what your transit situation is, but there are multiple really good food places around the Asian Family Mart in Bellevue. Mostly Chinese (I don’t know […]

@skinnylatte Please to be posting your reviews and impressions of Seattle restaurants as well!
(I had a chuckle thinking - did the chef confuse red things and sub tomatoes for chilies? :)

@skinnylatte We are ready for you with LOTS of drizzle on tap today! I had to wear my hoodie’s hood just to get the mail this morning. :-)

Random aside, because it's that sort of morning - given where I live, the clientele she serves, and her curiosity about things, my hair stylist is probably the most Azure-knowledgable hairdresser in the world. 😆

I think I can get #Calibre to work for me, and also it's definitely not a non-tinkerer's solution.
Unlike Mint, which still mostly seems to just work -- and was gentle enough that I recommended it to my hairdresser the other day. She's fairly tech-saavy but doesn't necessarily want to […]

#Calibre finds:
- Having the content server available in my home network mostly works - the page downloads the book, I think, so if I start reading on a mobile device and take that mobile device away, I can keep reading (good).
- But, it means that I have to preplan what I want to put on my […]

Discovered so far with #Calibre experimentation:
- Moving Calibre libraries is weird. Copying the content folder makes a mess; you must import/export. But if your two machines have different versions, that won't work either.
- Relatedly, Linux Mint's software mgmt has a downlevel of Calibre […]

@eswag Right now I'm playing with Calibre installed on an old laptop. And then I'm turning on the content server. That makes it possible to access my library via http.
From there right now I'm just using a browser on my iPhone or a browser on another computer. I had some thought of seeing if I […]

Hmmm, testing it a bit more, it seems like Calibre's sync is device-specific. Which seems totally wrong. I don't want to uniquely remember where I was on each device - I want it to sync across devices!

Also, omg, the absolute pleasure of being able to just fucking highlight a quote and copy/paste somewhere else. Kindle has been hamstringing that for years and it's been so goddamn annoying.
