A damning critique of @hackneycouncil.bsky.social redevelopment at Pembury Junction. £19m being spent on a new design that fails basic 🚲safety audits. How can we expect other authorities to get it right if Hackney doesn't bother? 🧵

Next presentation is by Nicola from @solveschoolrun.bsky.social Such an important mission. She highlights the equity of providing safer routes for school children. Her campaign is data led with some startling statistics

Right I'll do a little bit of reporting from today's #LabourWalksCycles25 event in Leicester. We've kicked off with Geoff Whittle, assistant Mayor who has inspired us with what the city has been up to in terms of change.

Up bright and early to Leicester for @labourwalkscycles.bsky.social conference. Let 2025 be the year that we remember that Labour was elected for 'Change'

If you want to find out more about getting better walking and cycling infrastructure, then join us this Saturday in Leicester for this excellent conference!🚶🏽‍♀️🚲🌹 @rezinachowdhury.bsky.social www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/labour-cyc...

Courage.

Cities full of cycle parking for all are quick and easy wins. If your neighbourhood doesn't have any, ask your council why not? #Hackney

London’s Vision Zero action plan is being updated. It’s a chance for the Mayor and TfL to show they get why their Vision Zero plan matters and to make it robust enough to challenge the motor normativity that prioritises convenience of people in cars over the safety of people on foot and on bikes.

It is 10 years since Stephanie Turner was tragically killed cycling in Hackney on Seven Sister Road. Nothing about the road layout where she was killed has changed. www.hackneycitizen.co.uk/2015/01/27/v...

I'm sure I'm not the first, but how long can Met Police and other govt depts carry on using Twitter in an official manner? How can Londoners trust a force that is using a tool run by a fascist?

Just 10 days until the fantastic Hackney Cycling Campaign Burns Night dinner & dance! Date: Sat 25 Jan 2025 Time: 6-11 PM Location: City Academy, E9 6EA Price: £35 Tickets sell out so make sure to get yours: www.tickettailor.com/events/hackn... More info: hackneycycling.org.uk/news/burns-n...

Cycle lanes create the space for those with mobility scooters to go further independently. Why are we still arguing about if these are good things?

For anyone new here following the saga that is Thames Water in Finsbury Park: the end is nigh* *for now #CW38 #London

Shout out to Islington council for gritting the cycle tracks around Highbury Corner this week. Makes a huge difference. @cycleislington.uk

I love cycling. If I'm ever killed by a motorist; whether through negligence, weakness, or their own deliberate fault... I hope no one says I died doing what I loved. Instead let people say I was interrupted doing what I loved, and killed by a motorist.

Cycling as a mobility aid, far more common than you would think #cycling #infrastructure

Only a small number of cyclist and pedestrian fatalities attract media coverage because the names of the victims are nowadays rarely made public. We’ve written about Harry Webb several times. Now the Government knows his name. This is why journalism matters. www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/h...

Not great here @arsenalfc.bsky.social big crowd still not seated after KO due to terrible crowd control. Blocks not opened despite being sold. Really poor #UEFA #WCL #ARSJUV

Work as intended vs work as done. A good example of why it's important to factor human behaviour into design. Also vertical bike racks are bullshit #bikes #design #desireline

Because Hackney Council LTNs made safe cycling routes we were able to get rid of our car & cycle our kids (& their friends) around. It isn’t rocket science - make alternatives safe & attractive & people will use them
