President Trump said he will continue to restrict The Associated Press’ access to his events and news conferences until the outlet goes along with his renaming of the Gulf of Mexico in its reports. He acknowledged that the move was a presidential retaliation against AP's editorial policy.

Citizen Lab released a report that highlights three serious security issues in the RedNote app, including that the app retrieves uploaded user content in a way that allows anyone else on your network, at your ISP, or organizations like the NSA, to see everything you look at and upload to RedNote.

So I'm trying to be as chill as I can be, but why aren't more people talking about the executive order that came out regarding the independence of agencies, or the argued lack thereof? So the law that the executive branch follows is only whatever they interpret it to be?

This will be a dark and painful day at a space agency that brings so much light and joy to the world.

The NBA has landed on Bluesky @nba.com

Are auto-deleting posts on a roadmap for Bluesky? Is there someone out there who wants to implement a feature like this? Because I would like that very much.

@hankgreen.bsky.social why aren't Crash Course and SciShow on @nebula.tv? Is that something @complexly.bsky.social has considered?

As part of trying to get back to more valuable Fedora contributions, I'm going to try pulling my Fedora task management out of Todoist and into my bullet journal. Bullet journaling seems to have helped me for my personal life, so maybe it will help for Fedora as well.

I'm going to try something risky and intentionally follow news sources on social media. I don't want to be blindsided by triggering stuff, but bsky offers more tools for control than the mainstream sites. Will try to protect myself with that. News is irradiating, but I need to find a way.

End-to-end encryption by default means “if you show up with a warrant or a subpoena (to Signal), they have almost nothing about you that they can hand over,” EFF’s @evacide.bsky.social told @cnn.com.

EFF to Ninth Circuit: Protect young people’s First Amendment right to use social media (and its algorithms):

I am really frustrated that the press is discussing the destruction of USAID as something that has happened rather than an illegal action that will likely be undone in two weeks when courts tell the world that it was illegal.

Not loving this moment in history ngl

“It is clear that many, many young people also experience help, education, friendship, & a sense of belonging there (online)—precisely because social media allows them to explore,” EFF’s @thejasonkelley.com told @chascitypaper.bsky.social.

U.S. Government agencies have been ordered to enact sweeping takedowns of information— but technologists, librarians, and open access organizations have mobilized a preservation effort.

My instinct is to make the case that USAID is extremely good, actually. But I feel like it’s more important to say, “What is happening is antagonistic to the foundational document of the nation.”

If Teams and Outlook could finally be fused together, that would be great

Age verification laws are right up there with real names policies in the pantheon of "you think this is going to help people, but it's actually quite disastrously bad" ideas.

VICTORY! After over a decade, a federal court has declared that warrantless backdoor searches of US person’s communications collected under Section 702 of FISA is unconstitutional.

EFF Statement on U.S. Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold TikTok Ban:

If the Supreme Court were to side with Texas in this week’s case, it would open the door to a slew of state laws that frustrate internet users' First Amendment rights and make them less secure online. Here's what you need to know about the upcoming arguments.

I got into Magic the Gathering over the holiday break, and I have reached the limit of how good I can be before deck building. I don't want to give money to Magic Arena, but man do I feel the temptation lol
