the thing about the NYT releasing a podcast about trans healthcare is that if it’s not the story of how the alliance defending freedom captured the most influential liberal media outlet in the us and got it to provide a veneer of scientism to a bigoted religious crusade, what is it about?

My “No, people will not literally die” fact sheet has people asking a lot of questions already answered by fact sheet.

WOW Fourth Circuit holds that a jurisdiction-stripping statute depends on a functioning Merit Systems Protections Board and Special Counsel. Because we don’t have those, the Court remands to decide whether court has jurisdiction www.ca4.uscourts.gov/opinions/232...

BREAKING: The opinion of a random person you just encountered online is not, in fact, the universally embraced belief of "the Left" or "Liberals" or whoever else you'd like to paint with a broad brush. More as this story develops.

DOGE is now reviewing every NIH grant that goes out, I reported last week. That review is AI-driven and is screening for DEI, trans health, China, vaccine hesitancy, and the institutions to whom Trump has blocked funding, @hannahnatanson.bsky.social reports. Gift link: wapo.st/3HhnPSt

The fact that the Supreme Court on the shadow docket effectively overruled Humphrey’s Executor despite repeatedly reassuring us in prior opinions that it was doing so such thing tells you everything you need to know about Dobbs’ assurances that Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell are safe.

NEW: The Trump administration has conceded that it improperly deported another Salvadoran man in violation of a court order — blaming a "confluence of administrative errors." The man's lawyer plans to demand his return. www.politico.com/news/2025/05...

As we’ve gotten more emergency stay orders from SCOTUS and more ops from the dissenters, I continue to find it significant that there was no dissenting opinion in the transgender military case. And I take it as a sign that discussions were still ongoing about the standard of scrutiny in Skrmetti

Guess we’re going to find out whether the Smithsonian is part of the unitary executive (with the Chief being recused since he is on the board of regents by statute).

Today's newsletter is about the study Republicans in Utah ordered about trans youth... that they're now ignoring. www.readtpa.com/p/the-study-...

Someone hacked the personal cellphone of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and impersonated her in texts and calls (possibly with an AI voice clone) to leading Republicans and corporate executives: www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

I cannot think of a way for the Left to more thoroughly owned than for Trump to continue to attack Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society. Please do not continue. We would be so owned.

This nomination is possible only because Trump illegally fired the previous head of the Office of Special Counsel and the DC Circuit stayed the district court injunction keeping him in office.

This guy misrepresented himself as a lawyer -- he hadn't passed the bar -- to represent Andrew Tate

“I wonder if I, too, am qualified to destroy a federal agency?”

This comparison between Loper Bright and AEDPA doesn't even make sense. The analog to AEDPA is Chevron, not Loper Bright.

Bribing someone at their standard rate is still a bribe.

If you were wondering how DOJ civil rights investigations get started these days: www.wsj.com/us-news/educ...

Kavanaugh has Seven County, which is the only other decision from December, so Roberts is extremely likely to be the author of Skrmetti.

So this is basically Drag Race, right? The winner needs to have perseverance energy nerve ingenuity and style.

So they 100% wrote portions of this with Chat GPT, right?

Made possible by the DC Circuit motions panel from hell (the sequel). newrepublic.com/post/195818/...

Hoo boy.

yes this is famously how free societies treat their universities

Wait, WHAT?!!!

Fewer.

I hope more and more people are able to see the parallels with the rhetoric used to restrict gender affirming care.

This headline is malpractice. It really should win a prize for being technically true while conveying the exact opposite of what the underlying column says. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/27/o...

The defendant in this case is named Calvin Ball. www.ca4.uscourts.gov/opinions/251...

The Utah Report shows exactly what the people commissioning it didn’t want to see, that gender affirming care works. This article brought to you by @evanurquhart.bsky.social

it's unfathomably messed up that the president of the United States is using the power of his office to go after a single high school kid.

The liberals in Hobby Lobby said RFRA codified pre-Smith precedent. The conservatives (per Alito) said RFRA provided more protection than pre-Smith precedents like Lee but apparently won’t extend the same principle to Lyng.

Has Justice Alito ever expressed doubts or regrets about his vote in the “bong hits 4 Jesus” case? It’s the elephant in the room when you read his ode to Tinker in his dissent from denial of cert in the “only two genders” t-shirt case. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

I’m surprised that only Thomas and Alito filed dissents from the denial of cert in the “only 2 genders” t-shirt case. Interesting to think about how this might reflect on the state of deliberations in Mahmoud and Skrmetti. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

Advocate [24 May] -- Florida AG threatens upscale Palm Beach gym with investigation over allowing trans women in locker room. Pure intimidation -- letter doesn't cite any statute & FL bathroom laws only apply to public, not private, facilities. @rikiwilchins.bsky.social

Republicans in Utah commissioned an investigation into gender-affirming care for trans youth after banning it in 2023. They're now rejecting the findings of that investigation which showed access to care reduced suicides and improved "positive mental health and psychosocial functioning outcomes."
