Sorry didn't mean to imply that - this ties in to a related ongoing conversation.

That's great - any pushback on what the GOP is doing is good, and if they want to come over and join the cause, they're welcome. (Chasing after them and modifying our own positions in order to create some apocryphal Big Tent, OTOH, is not welcome.)

Agreed, they can take time, and decide for themselves what issues are important and how they feel about them. It's not that we wouldn't want their votes, it's that we shouldn't be chasing those votes. Let's plant a flag (or tent pole) in the moral center and rally people around that.

Not bad news, but we have to be very careful about where the "not what I voted for" defense can lead.

Nothing to see here, just a matter-of-fact discussion of how a president can subvert government power for his own personal ends to punish enemies. Normal day in the United States of Authoritarianism, according to the NYT.

The conclusion? Don’t treat human beings who have agency as if they’re scared kittens that have to be coaxed out from under a dumpster. If we don’t speak truth to them, how do we know they agree with our core principles? And even more important, how will anyone know what our core principles are?

Fascists/authoritarians/kleptocrats make exceptions to allegedly ironclad rules when it suits their purposes. Which turns their “wastefraudabuse” charges and horror that a single person might get, say, health care, “undeservedly,” from a cruel irony into a sick, barbarous and quite intentional joke.

“The middle” is such a slippery term - and it gives you nothing to stand on that’s any more moral or inspiring than a finger in the wind.
