The inference/embedding would be done locally in the browser and embeddings would be stored on an in-memory vector database (on the webpage). which I guess you could theoretically store to localstorage but that's another matter entirely

I agree with this to a degree. The versioning can be an annoyance if you are going back to a WASM project that you need to work on and it's now on an old incompatible version than your local wasm-bindgen
