Perfect post. No notes. Well, actually there is one little thing…

Alberta: Tax averse, but not fiscally conservative.

The streets have indeed been basically fine, and that makes sense because the City’s evident priority is to clear and maintain roadways. Sidewalks are a mess, but this isn’t new, and it’s the outcome of the City’s snow clearing procedures. Bad, inflexible bike lane design hasn’t helped.

Does anyone here have experience working with a lawyer on landlord tenant issues in Toronto? If so, would you recommend that lawyer? I’m a tenant looking to get a legal opinion.

To the French, the Dutch, the Belgians - whose people we fought with and died for to liberate, to the British who we fought arm in arm with, to the Germans who we liberated from fascism - if you don’t speak up for, and stand alongside Canada now, then what did Canadians fight for and die to protect?

A month before the 2021 election, Jagmeet Singh had a net favourability of +6 and was the only leader with a rating above 0. When year-end polling for 2024 came out, his rating had plummeted to -16, only 2 points better than Pierre Poilievre. Singh is cooked.

"Sure we've gone nowhere but south in the polls since I became leader of the party, and sure most Canadian Leftists have given up on the NDP entirely because of the inumerable poor decisions I've made as leader, but that's no reason for me to step aside!" #cdnpoli

Did NPR approach the CBC with the idea for this episode, or was it the other way around?

America is fucking around and finding out so quickly the latest find-outs are also counting as the next cycle's fuck-arounds.

The problem with asking how our lives would change if Canada became the 51st state has nothing to do with patriotism; it's a dumb question because it's based on a woefully incomplete premise. Why not ask how we'd respond if space aliens took over? "Well, Ian, it depends..."

I have been surprised to see progressives mobilizing to yank Musk's citizenship. Like, please think three steps past your goal here.

Never forget.

I’m so tired of these hucksters.

A disappointing, confused and obviously incomplete “fully costed” platform. No money for transit, the $40B 407 promise conspicuously absent, and $3.65B more in giveaways to grocers than to the housing crisis.

We've done a wonderful job of making car travel the only semi-reliable mode of travel.

My favourite hockey game is the 2002 Olympic Men's Gold Medal final. We were down, we were up, it was a high-intensity battle from start to finish, and it turned on Marty Brodeur. He was in the best form of his life and it saved us a dozen times. All of which is to say, I'm worried about tonight.

I'm very new to TikTok (same handle as here) and by chance my 2nd video went viral. As soon as that happened the algorithm started serving me this guy's videos. He does what I'd call the "conservative shuffle". He starts with a premise that seems banal or reasonable and then...look out!

The difference between Toronto's version of "snow clearing" and Montreal's "snow removal" comes down to this Quebec invention. Here in Toronto, we only care about pushing snow out of the way of vehicles, In Montreal, their priority is to get rid of the snow entirely. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

An interesting debate. Sprinklers save lives, but they don't make a home more resilient. Instead of losing a house to fire, you lose it to massive water damage. That said, the cost of making houses safe and truly fire-resistant makes sprinklers seem cheap. (h/t @stateofthecity.bsky.social)

Is the NY Times trying to encourage people to eat fewer eggs and, by extension, stop complaining about how expensive they are, by dropping a piece about how the hands-down best way to eat eggs—with a nice runny yolk—might kill you?

Rewatching Deadwood for the umpteenth time, and my goodness, Brad Dourif works his ass off every time he's on screen. In the scene in S1 where he's asking Jane to stop drinking, he sheds a little tear before he starts speaking. I hadn't noticed it before.

Wait wait wait. Has the left considered responding to this world historical moment with a tax credit?
