I’ve been baking a lot more since I have to use crutches for 6 weeks and can’t do my usual activities. I’ve had the same sourdough starter since 2019. This is my latest experiment: dark chocolate sourdough with dried cherries. Will post the end result.

Matt talked to Sam Nordquist's mother. A tough but necessary read.

We are back for day two in front of Judge Reyes in Talbott v. Trump, the challenge to Trump's anti-trans military executive order. The plaintiffs are seeking a preliminary injunction; we do not expect a ruling until after a hearing after the military issues its implementing guidance next week.

🎙️ ON AIR: We're speaking w/ @joyurcaba.bsky.social , St. John's Community Health CEO Jim Mangia & @calgbtqhealth.bsky.social director Dannie Ceseña about how Trump's executive orders rolling back trans rights are impacting trans Americans' day-to-day lives. 📻 Listen:

Listen in!

Separately: The State Dept. received my passport application on 1/27 (tho USPS said it was delivered the week before). I paid for expedited processing, estimated to take 2-3 weeks. The dept. cashed the $190 check on 1/28.

I'm listening to the hearing on the president's trans military ban, and Judge Ana Reyes has already looked up "identify" and "ideology" in the dictionary for the government, which is having a hard time defining terms in the EO. 👀

New: Last night, hundreds of CDC post-doc fellows were fired, including all in the group who call themselves the "disease detectors," and are the future of public health lab leaders. One senior official told me, "It is going to cripple public health for decades." www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

Just gonna throw this out there: Reading more than an article’s headline is always a good idea. Headlines don’t have the space to give a ton of context. But articles do.

To those asking why this is news when the EO is not law: It’s news when more than half a dozen hospitals have preemptively complied with the order and curtailed their care. We note that he is doing this following AG Letitia James’ reminder that NY law requires doctors to continue treating.

A New York City doctor said he will continue providing gender-affirming treatments to his patients younger than 19 despite President Donald Trump’s executive order aiming to ban such care.

I've gotten a lot of wild emails about my work, but today I got one titled "Jo's crimes against God..." 👀 He ends it, "Please email me if you have any questions. Thanks for your time friend."

Appalled by the amount of emails I get using the recent executive orders aimed at trans people to pitch coverage of a business/its CEO.

a year ago 16-year-old Oklahoman Nex Benedict died after a bathroom beating. in the time since, we've lost more trans kids, while losing federal trans rights. how a community is holding itself together after years of living under Trump's current anti-trans policies at the state level @teenvogue.com
