If you like R.E.M., this is a must-read. If you like music, I Have That On Vinyl is always a must-read. If you like personal essays that relate the personal to the musical in ways that are original, honest, and thought-provoking, Michele is a must-read, even if you don't care about the music.

good morning, how about some nu-metal love to start your day with my essay on korn, etc.

Today is the day for The Pixies' catalog to Hochulize spineless Democrats. (Yes, they are Pixies. But if I were king of the world, I would mandate that all bands with names of two or three words that end in a plural must adopt the definite article. I would be a frivolous but benevolent ruler.)

new at IHTOV, from me. i went long on @kevinpdevine.bsky.social's "make the clocks move" but really one specific song. this is deeply personal and deals with alcoholism and a fading relationship and a really profound song that changed me fundamentally ihavethatonvinyl.com/liner-notes/...

This is some bullshit

I've noted some of the procedural things Democrats could be doing in Congress, but this point from @edgeofsports.bsky.social's great piece in the Nation deserves emphasis. This is basic politics, and it's baffling that every Democrat isn't doing it every day. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

'Mats vs. Musk today. All Replacements, all the time, or until someone from the Democratic Party does something. So all the time it is! Switching things up by going through the catalog in reverse, starting with the underrated All Shook Down.

Just talked to the family member who birthed me. She insisted that the DOGE douches were only going after people who worked from home to get them back in the office. I assume that’s how Fox News is spinning this, as a purge of layabout Feds living the high life at home.

One the one hand, I got laid off this morning. On the other, I had my first encounter in the wild with a ridiculous cybertruck this morning, at Connecticut and L. So, it all evens out.

Freshly laid off, still have that new loser smell. Cue the music. youtube.com/watch?v=n7gm...

also at IHTOV today, an essay from me on nick cave & the bad seeds' boatman's call, and what it is like to lose music in a divorce and then bring it back into your life years later. it's about loss, but also about reconciling, and about a great album ihavethatonvinyl.com/liner-notes/...
