I think I got to day 60-something and played for 30ish hours and saw neither of these things. It's such a pleasingly deep game, though I think I've had my fill of the rng.

This isn't wrong per se; Souls game make you track back through areas to the fog gate plenty of times. But it makes the loop take longer, and after 10 hours just chasing this boss clear I am keen to just get it done.

The quirk in Nighteign's formula is that you don't get the constant exposure to a fight which helps you settle into the rhythm of it. You always have to do 20 minutes fighting through the field again, which means you can never find a groove through repetition.
