Today in “neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party”

Not the most important thing about this story but, by my count, this is the fifth article in the New York Times since May 10th in which they have quoted Christopher Rufo. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/u...

from the profile Mike links. REALLY @nytimes.com? 293 days in a Russian jail counts as "briefly"???? what the ACTUAL fuck?

I do not understand this tendency among journalists to reduce every political event to a prediction about whether it will be a lasting news cycle. On the merits, we have a billionaire who helped a fascist get into power and now believes he can dictate policy. That matters! A lot!

The NYT's continued war on trans kids and families is particularly heinous right now because they're targeting a group who can not speak up without endangering themselves. It's watching a minority group hide and flee for their lives while running a 6-part series about how the other side has a point.

It’s these two Democrats.

Over on “Truth Social,” Maria Bartiromo is sharing Grok analysis of whether Trump is implicated in the Epstein investigation.

National Airport is gonna close for hours, delaying thousands of passengers, because Donald Trump wants someone to bring him a flag via parachute. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202... (In 1993 the media made a mini scandal out of Bill Clinton getting a haircut on AF1 that delayed 0 flights)

Says a lot about how still normalized anti-Muslim / anti Arab sentiment is that a Biden nominated judge was blocked because a senator of his own party helped legitimize racist talking points about his views on Israel and now the only Muslim candidate for NYC mayor is the only one asked about Israel

I understand that "Dems in disarray" has a rhythm that "GOP in disarray" doesn't. But in 40+ years there's been no Dem-disarray remotely comparable to Trump/Musk/Leo/etc fratricide. Has there been even *one* "GOP in disarray" big headline? Maybe I've missed it.

Very ominous: Trump administration officials delayed and censored a govt forecast because it predicts an increase in the nation’s trade deficit in farm goods later this year www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

The Trumpists strive for balance: they oppose antisemitism and Jewishness in equal measure.

“Does refusing to hire a Holocaust denier as a member of Harvard’s history department faculty count as an ideological limit test?” Takano asked. Replying, McMahon said: “I believe that there should be diversity of viewpoints relative to teachings and opinions on campuses.” CC: ADL, Elise Stefanik

I say this with no pleasure and with apologies for any offense, but there's just no other way to say it. Trump's second regime is the fullest realization of his vision of politics as entertainment, a concept he borrowed from Howard Stern. He doesn't have a cabinet. He has a Wack Pack.

Somehow the "We need to support policies that are popular" crowd never land on the very popular polices like "taxing big corporation more," "making health care more affordable," or "paying teachers more." It's always just "be 10% more racist."

The exonerative voice was initially reserved for cops, but now it's applied to the IDF and even random hate criminals

Wallet inspector's failure to return with wallet raises doubts about his sincerity

NYT people are circling the wagons yet again. I love the logic here: “I’veworked with her for a long time, therefore she can’t possibly be an atrocious hack. qed. “Fair” at the NYT of course means “lending equal credence to nonsense and bigotry as we do to facts and basic human decency.”

According to GOP: Minimum wage worker makes a mistake on the form documenting his work hours: Fraud! Waste! Abuse! Take away his health coverage! Guy files 866,000 false Medicare claims, defrauds government of $87 million: Give that man a pardon! www.miamiherald.com/news/local/c...

This is the ur-NYT column, the template, the holy mountain on which their ideal columnists are all born: of course we don’t endorse what these nasty fascists are doing but if you think about it they have a point and (inhales deeply, turns to camera) It’s Complicated.

elon musk's media tour is a clear sign of the power the mainstream media still wields. he and his pr team aint trying to clean up his image by shitposting on twitter. theyre sitting down with cbs and feeding morsels to ny times. thats where the power still is. www.oliverexplains.com/p/elon-musk-...

After 576 consecutive podcasts bashing Biden, I'm beginning to suspect that our Bulwark "allies" are doing this because they very much want to avoid talking about something else. Maybe about how smug, professional GOP influencers came to engineer a base that is fucked in the head in the first place

ya or the other possibility is that the unnamed "white house official" is just lying to CNN

You mean that deluge of credulous articles that came straight from Elon Musk‘s PR team were all… lies? Say it ain’t so!

Maybe that New York Times editor who wrote that being angry about child abuse created an impossible parenting standard making millennials not have kids should have included the way we treat cars and drivers as more valuable than the lives of children doing ordinary activities.

They all eagerly repeated this bullshit in the most breathless triumphal tones. “He’s leaving in defeat! Our national nightmare is over!” All lies. Time and time again, the most cynical take on our feckless, corrupt media turns out to be correct.

Remember how the media was breathlessly reporting for the last few days that musk was leaving government ? Do you remember how many of us said that was bullshit Only to be told we were being fear mongers by some of the loudest voices in the liberal online space? We were right again.

Remember when Ronald Reagan literally had Alzheimer's during his 2nd term, his wife ran the country with astrology, the Republicans all covered it up and turned him into an icon naming airports and highways after him all over the country? Yeah, that actually happened.

Jake Tapper looking like an absolute idiot tonight, completely missed that Joe Biden was actually dead and replaced by clones and body doubles in 2020. His book proven entirely wrong.

No money was actually saved, but at the same time we had truly devastating cuts to scientific research, medicine, and foreign aid. Just reinforces what a tiny fraction of spending those areas always were, with an outsized positive impact.

I'm somewhat sympathetic to random voters about this issue. The media (including the NYTimes itself) often described the candidates' stance on immigration upside-down, even crediting Biden's "secure the border and go after gangs" policy to Trump, and hiding Trump's "go after random people" strategy

Never has any leader had so many people wanting to make the argument that “not wearing any clothes actually makes the emperor better dressed if you think about it.”

You'd think news outlets would stop taking as true the every utterance of people who do nothing but lie, and stop writing headlines, stories, op eds based on the premise that this time they're acting in good faith, but nope here goes Charlie Brown kicking the football again.

Imagine if it was the other way. They’d all be lit up.

Couldn’t help but notice that neither the Times or Post have a story up about Trump saying he’s not sorry that Joe Biden has cancer. I guess that’s just Trump being Trump ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

seriously, how hard is it to write "trump claims to fire [X]"

the “centrists still primarily on twitter rapidly swerving right” phenomenon is almost becoming a law.

Well that raises a question. Elon can't be back and forth because he will no longer be a time-limited special government employee. Is the press going to zoom in on that? Will he be a paid consultant? DOGE isn't even a real department. 📺: bsky.app/profile/atru...

the onion predicting the future yet again

Many of the people who voted for America's political disaster are paying no attention to the unfolding disaster. They don't follow the news. They think the libs are getting owned and that's enough for them. They're clueless about the damage they've done to everyone, including themselves.

He spent much of 2024 claiming that he was done with political spending while he was spending literally hundreds of millions of dollars to elect Trump. You have to be a grade A mark to take his claims that he's stepping away from anything at face value
