Since writing this article, I have received messages from federal civil servants who tell me it is accurate, and that they are frightened. Please share this with anyone who doesn't understand the scale of the transformation. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Still making America great again, I see.

Heartbreaking

Because we have broken tax laws, the private equity firm can now profitably destroy this business, leaving everyone worse off except them.

This really is too, er, on the beak.

🚨🚨🚨KEVIN, WE NEED YOUR HELP!🚨🚨🚨 Did you see us wearing sassy colors at the State of the Union? We sure stuck it to Drumpf! ****BUT WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR DONATIONS TO BUY MORE OUTFITS*****

I love that there's still a paper that makes a political cartoon the centerpiece of its front page. This was once commonplace. By veteran cartoonist Bill Bramhall.

That whole In Memoriam staging at the Oscars was very odd.

"Flow" won the Oscar for Best Animated Film ♡

Awesome to see Flow win best animated feature!

Looking forward to the Oscars and hoping good things happen for Anora. Really miss the Oscar parties from lafj.bsky.social.

Sure was hoping to be out and about next winter. Looks like it will be another year this decade of staying inside. RFK Jr can rot in hell.

Always wondered how the Star Wars Emperor could start with a battle-hardened army and end up with an "entire legion of his best troops" being beaten to death by teddybears with sticks. Then Hegseth ended up as US Defence Sec. And now yeah that makes sense.

Incredibly helpful from @radleybalko.bsky.social. Individual reports are crucial, but there's *so much* going on that these roundups are incredibly valuable. We need to step back every day, every week and look at where the overall picture has moved to open.substack.com/pub/radleyba...

God bless The Onion.

A movie you've watched more than six times, using only GIFs

My year of epic reads begins. Starting off with Lonesome Dove.

time to dig up the @adamkotsko.bsky.social tweet

I love Robyn. youtu.be/fYc3x3LgEJs?...

Finally got around to watching Tár. A fantastic film. youtu.be/Na6gA1RehsU?...

Catching up with some films. Anora was great - at times unexpectedly funny, often heartbreaking. youtu.be/p1HxTmV5i7c?...

I concede that on one level the ‘Gulf of America’ idiocy is just a toddler screaming in his sandbox. On another, I wrote a novel 35 years ago, TIGANA, about how tyrants erase (or try to) names, history, art to consolidate their control of people. So, it matters. Symbols do. So does acquiescence.

One of his best, and there are many that are superb!

Terrible news that portends bad things for the state of documentaries, music and otherwise. Hard not to see this as Netflix taking the path of least resistance and opting to make a puff piece rather than go to the mat for a great filmmaker who made something deeper and profound.

I love this so much! Sound up :)

Google's Super Bowl ad about how every business can benefit from using AI contained a factual error produced by Google's AI. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Bravo!

This was a necessary read for me right now.

Let’s talk tariffs: why they mean higher costs for you, and why Michigan will be impacted more almost any other state youtu.be/xDNKG-IsNaU?...

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

Just heard Ian Cohen mention Autre Ne Veut on today's episode of Indiecast. Loved this song when it came out in 2013. Haven't heard it in forever. It's still great. youtu.be/dw5wuzHOvo8?...

Absolutely spot on.

Watched this film the other night. It is magical and I truly hope it gets the Animated Film Oscar this year. youtu.be/ZgZccxuj2RY?...

Important addendum— they are approved for *everyone* up to age 45! And everyone should get them, because in addition to preventing cervical cancer they can prevent head and neck cancers, penile cancers, and anal cancers!

Probably going to have to make a trip to see this: kalamazoomuseum.org/exhibits/ray...

If you’re planning on watching any Lynch, my advice is: don’t watch any analysis videos, don’t think about what stuff is “supposed” to mean, just get your own unique experience from it!! I think people have become far too concerned with the “correct” interpretations of media. Just experience it!!!

Great article from @ethaniversonpiano.bsky.social about Slugs' in NYC and the jazz that was played there from the late 60's - early 70's. Though not recorded at Slugs', it's a reminder I need to break out my Lee Morgan Live at the Lighthouse boxed set again soon. www.thenation.com/article/cult...
