Luxon: Trusts Donald Trump Doesn't trust Māori with Three Waters

Every single one of the Trump supporters sounds like a domestic abuser. "You should've let him hit you, you shouldn't have complained in public, you're never grateful, you never say thank you."

Hear me out: it’s time for America to be sealed under a giant mysterious dome

what i find most offensive about the current moment in new zealand is how the government and the bureaucracy are fighting 2008’s battles: a manufactured fiscal crisis, an uncertain monetary policy trajectory, tax cuts as a barely disguised wealth transfer. but it’s 2025, and the world is burning

Great explainer from Rewiring Aotearoa on why installing more rooftop solar is a much better idea for Aotearoa than importing LNG: www.rewiring.nz/watt-now/why... #climate #solar #nzpol

Genuinely couldn't believe this figure until I saw the Financial Times confirm it using Meta's own financial reporting data For THIS $100 billion is genuinely the kind of money you could "do the impossible" with. Crack nuclear fusion. HIV vaccine. Universal flu vaccine And they spent it on this

For those who don't know this story, which I first shared six years ago today.... This one time I got my days wrong at work and ended up alone in a room with my boss and the President of Ireland while I was on ketamine. 🧵

the most dishonorable and malevolent elected official in my lifetime including Trump, frankly, because he understood exactly what he was doing and what the consequences would be

Vance’s grotesqueness aside, the whole thing is one of the most horrific acts of betrayal ever committed by a democratic state against another. Just a moral abomination and a permanent stain on everyone who supports it

After all we've seen in the past 3.5wks, I cannot believe anyone is confused about this. Musk. Owns. Trump. Trump sold Musk the functions of the Presidency; in return, Musk spent $250M to ensure Trump won instead of dying in prison. Trump just licenses his name to the deal: POTUS in name only.

Give someone you love a cone for Valentine's Day

this attitude — paperwork is for sissies, real wars are won by Big Strong Men — is traditionally a harbinger of ruinous for defeat for everyone who holds it

Cracking (but long) piece about DeepSeek by @edzitron.com. www.wheresyoured.at/deep-impact/ Devastating conclusion.

I love the way these sorts of things always have to report whether the judge was Trump or Biden appointed, or some prior Democrat or Republican president. It's such a damning statement about the US judicial system that it is even a thing.

all these bad ideas belong in the cybertruck of history

This is an incredible thread about community and disaster relief and logistics and resilience

Brother Aperahama explains the tikanga behind turning backs to a speaker in a powhiri #waitangi

Still think that all the denials of a leadership bid are BS. Feels like chippy is just keeping the seat warm then 9 months out they'll unleash McAnulty

Kieran McAnulty is all over the news saying Bishop is "full of it" and that Nats have kicked people in need out of emergency housing who are now in tents, living in cars and on the street to get them off the list and "the whole thing is bull" HERE SPEAKS THE LANGUAGE OF MY PEOPLE! #NZPol

Waiting for all the people who told me to "give media time, it's the weekend" when I slammed outlets for poor coverage of Tim Jago and David Seymour now that we're halfway through the week and reporting has *completely* disappeared.

Oh please. Since when has out-bastarding Farage ever worked? You just pull political debate to the right, punch down on the vulnerable, whip up prejudice and actually deliver naff all. Look at the last 14yrs of Farage-induced failure. For love of god, be better. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This whole situation (and the many photos) feels emblematic of privatisation overall. The government set a ridiculously low bid ($3/serve) and some company accepted that and is still determined to make as much profit as possible from it. As long as the cost is managed, government don't care.

Convo with my friend from Hungary tonight who left after Orban’s election. She said “your head will spin with all the wild stuff they try to pull, new things every day, but don’t take your eyes off the money. It’s all about the money, and what they’re stealing, and for whom.”

The value engineered school lunches are an extraordinary visual symbol of what privatisation is. Fyre Festival every day for hundreds of thousands of kids.

I was led to believe by R.E.M. that I would feel a lot better about this.

dark times indeed, but still laughing that one of the week’s big stories was an Chinese AI company being like “oh a bullshit machine? we can make that, no problem” and it blew up the stock market

I just want a political 'left' that has clear, strong ethics and that can just be direct — say the shit that we're all thinking. Put your foot in your mouth a little, don't be shy. It's not the time to be middling.

i just cannot get over how much the administration’s response to the crash shows a profound disrespect for the lives of the people they are supposed to serve

On the other hand, what a great lesson for all our children to learn about having a nat led government and what happens when you privatise stuff. It's nearly lunchtime children. Time to see what ACT thinks an $85 million private sector lunch looks like. #nzpol

Atlas policy strikes again #nzpol

a pox on the houses of everyone, in the UK, the US or elsewhere who, despite not seeing themselves as reactionaries, decided that trans kids were somehow the most important issue in the world at a time when so much else was going on, and who got their wishes now, but at what cost

Excellent opportunity for Labour/Greens/TPM to start telling the public National will sell their health system. Let Luxon go around and deny it. This is their tactic, use it. #nzpol

Great post. This pretty much my survival strategy at the moment. Haven't watched the news since November. Enjoy the world as much as you can, do what you can to look after it. The rest...Will be

This is perfect explanation
