John Lithgow gives Hulu his slightly disappointed face

lol Tubi should have streamed The Oscars.

They could have tried to play us off with music first.

18F is a group of technologists who left high paying work to serve the American people. They created the free federal tax filing system. An unvetted billionaire just fired them. All their methods are on this free mirrored site https://18f.org/guides/

You should know that a big part of 18F's work was to make sure multi-million to multi-*hundreds*-of-millions dollar contracts at fed *and* state level didn't go to shitty enterprise IT consultancies that *repeatedly* delivered tech that didn't work, was late, or didn't even do what it needed to

The future deserves its own space.

This movie terrified me as a child.

If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company. It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create. They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms. I’m happy to invest and/or help

Anyone who actually cared about the effectiveness and cost efficiency of government would know that 18F saved taxpayers millions by providing tech solutions for a fraction of the cost of bloated Deloitte contracts. But Elon doesn’t.

I worked there from 2016-18 & served as its first chief of staff. it was full of passionate, skilled, caring people (who could have made much more money elsewhere fwiw) - many of them converted to career federal positions when they could. I'm really crushed

Goodbye to 18F (2014-25)

18F, a digital services unit inside the General Services Administration, has been completely laid off, according to an email I’ve seen. The email says that 18F was deemed “non-critical” and the decision was made with the “explicit” direction of the administration and GSA leadership.

We can’t timeline cleanse our way out of this.

Fuck yeah, @pearljam.com. Fuck yeah. Keepin' it real since 1991. We're still alive, baby.

TRUE FACT: 67% of the people in Seattle are walking around this lake right now.

Revisiting the early optimism of @justinreach.bsky.social who said this to an audience at RAND: "I am a living example of personal publishing empowerment...mass media requires passivity while the net resoundingly rejects it." youtu.be/AxD4mqFtySQ?...

Thanks Vile Creature, I needed that.

I think that it's important to share examples of visible dissent. Normalcy bias is real. Sharing how people continue to dissent is helpful.

My threat? Minor.

The future deserves its own space.

This was a really thought provoking and timely discussion. The idea that connectivity≠connection really resonates right now.

The title of my book will be Software: The Journey from Enablement to Extortion

Some old wisdom applies here: you do not, under any circumstances, "gotta hand it to them"

Heads up @seattle.carinbikelane.com.
