Later that night he sobbed into his pillow: “I knew I should’ve said ‘bro’ twice. God DAMN it”

Bro I can strategize for half that. I’m efficient as hell.

He isn't reaching many conservatives—researchers have mostly studied effects of those who agree with him, like getting audiences riled up enough to badger lawmakers. If you're into academic journals, you can dig some up at scholar.google.com by searching "John Oliver" "Last Week Tonight" "effect".

If yours are anything like mine, you might have to tell them a few times

I just wanted to let you know that the way BlueSky truncated this thread before I clicked through made me laugh out loud. (Good thread, though.) Don’t ever change, Rob.

Love it, thanks. I welcome your name for fully opportunist hobos, like my Wastoid players whose nominal motivation is to find a specific McGuffin for a payday—but along the way, they’ll risk life and limb to save entire settlements, or to kill 6 jumbo crabs for a dodgy serum from a mad scientist.

I’ve had to be more thoughtful about how I use my “spare cycles” since about learning this. Everybody deserves some mental downtime, but it put things in perspective to learn that my brain defaulted to “what edits my game needs” while my wife’s defaulted to “what groceries our family needs.”

I was so curious I asked around, and only later realized there must be research. But the results line up! 🤣 Those of us with “high need for cognition” and “cognitive stimulation seeking” behaviors are the lovable weirdos. Most let their mind wander for recuperation or to planning/organizing tasks.

I find it to be a fun concept I don’t use because it basically never comes up with the (pretty low) frequency I get to play.

Gotta admit, though—it was kind of cool how the New Testament cartridge plugged right into into the Old Testament

Surely the IRS would nod approvingly if I’d included a line about “those same games on our shelves, unplayed,” but that seemed like a low blow

This is what happens when you don't have that level of specificity

Also finally got @cabinetofcuriosities.games’s CBR+PNK in hard copy tonight thanks to seeing it at a friendly local gaming store. Such a lovely selection and terrific recommendation labels all over the place at @sidequestbooks.bsky.social.

"We'll just terraform Mars," they insist, unable to terraform Earth, a planet that is already perfect except it's like 2° too warm.

When I made this game, I very deliberately only picked animals with the correct cadence for this theme song. Pangolins are wonderful creatures but they have no place in this world.

Okay but I really enjoyed reading it today, so

(I am one of the gamers who didn’t see the post about clean water … or the dude with the sword, so I better scroll back now, dang, 0 for 2)

I think (or hope) it’s more about what people want to use different media for—what they come here to do. E.g., for gamers dropping by for a quick break from the stresses of the day, “doodling a dude with a sword” sounds pretty ideal. Any reminder that life is hard risks getting lost in the noise.
