I understand everyone's frustration with the oversaturation of Mamdani coverage given that it's a local mayor race but the reason NYC has had such shitty mayors over the years is because of Dem machine capture by powerful financial interests — if that can be broken in NYC it can be broken elsewhere

Food deserts exist because private actors don't see opportunities for profit in them; one of the literal purposes of government in a mixed economy is to correct for the failures of the market to do things like provide accessible, affordable food.

I don’t think the “make the racists show their ass” theory works on a national level because a voting majority of our country (with racist systems like the Senate built in) are racist, but on a local level like NYC it seems like a very positive outcome, in addition to the election victory
