"Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) on Monday filed a joint resolution to Congress to “direct the removal” of the U.S. armed forces from any involvement in Israel’s war on Iran, and to prevent a unilateral decision by President Donald Trump to enter the war." good. every democrat should back him.

I wish more people understood that AI-assisted “search” is often this. Sure, here’s some papers to cite on this topic. … I very apologize, they are not real papers

"These boots took forever to lace up..."

Over 5,000 people showed up in Olympia for the No Kings rally (and that estimate is probably a little undercounted). For all of you who attended your first protest, to those of you who have been out from the start, thanks for showing up and making the day a blast.❤️

False reports of immigration enforcement can cause unnecessary fear in our communities. If you witness immigration enforcement activity first-hand or a loved one has been detained, please call or text it directly to the WAISN Deportation Defense Hotline: 1-844-724-3737

The end goal of anti-trans laws is to push trans people out of public life. That's why we're fighting to protect gender-affirming care for trans youth in United States v. Skrmetti.

Many of us are just one bad circumstance away from losing our homes. Millions of Americans spend over half of their monthly earnings just to keep a roof over their head. We must prioritize affordable housing instead of criminalizing people for having nowhere else to go.

In a democracy, shitty people get to vote too, and you have to outvote them every. single. time. That's just how it works. There is no "win condition" after which you have permanently defeated bad politics people and you can just ignore politics for the rest of your lives.

This week @iheartsapphfic.bsky.social the theme is "one night to forever". My swinger FFM novel WE THREE qualifies. Elena and Eric invite Jess to join them for one night of fun... And it turns into something Elena realizes she wants forever - and that's not something Jess is sure she can handle. 1/2

The Times saying last year they'd no longer endorse candidates in local elections, then immediately being like "oh but not THAT guy" 10 months later because the candidate wants free buses gives away the whole game. "Objectivity" means you break your own rules to punch left as much as you want.

NYT Ed Board said last year that they aren’t doing local endorsements anymore, but they couldn’t help themselves from writing a gross roundabout endorsement of Cuomo.

If you’re a Californian, please please call your state senator TODAY and tell them you expect them to vote yes on SB 627

This PEANUTS comic strip was published #OTD on June 16, 1975.

Two Sundays ago, Trump sent troops into LA. This weekend, protests filled the streets and his agenda unraveled. Brian O’Neill explains how the image of power gave way to one of isolation.

May today be a day where you get a good update on that project you've been looking forward to.

A landmark new study finds that after a major SCOTUS decision, child gun deaths soared—but only in states that loosened gun laws. In states that kept them tight, the outcome looked much different. Jeff Nesbit explains.

People like when you unapologetically stand for something, specifically the working class. This shouldn't be seen as some super lefty position, and we shouldn't need a poll to tell us it either.

We need more than just restoration. Setting aside that some of this research CAN'T resume - it's lost forever and has to start from scratch - we need *punitive* compensation for the unconstitutional carelessness, along with *preventative* measures.

And again, they were about 15-20 times as large as the April 2009 Tea Party protests, so I'll sit back and wait for 15-20 times as many stories from political pundits explaining that this was a decisive rebuke to the sitting president that Changes Everything.

not everyone is lucky enough to have a single image that sums up their entire approach to ethics but I'm glad bill watterson gave me one

Hey, @soundersfc.com, which kids are ok to protect?

Covid is a social justice issue. Respirators cost money. HEPA filters cost money. Tests cost money. Vaccines cost money. Paid time off is rare. Affordable child care is non existent Covid disproportionately impacts those who are already the most marginalized Mask up & protect your community

BTW—I don't want police to kill guilty people either. I'm just always fascinated how police can arrest white mass murderers like Vance Beolter alive & unharmed—but can't help but kill unarmed and innocent Black citizens like Philando Castile and George Floyd. The complexion for protection is a trip

If passed, the SAVE Act would limit access to our democracy for millions of eligible voters. The House has already passed it, but the Senate can still stop it in its tracks. Tell your Senator to REJECT this bill in defense of our voting rights.

Care about disability rights? DOE is trying to change the rules so new buildings are NOT REQUIRED TO BE ACCESSIBLE to people with disabilities. The last day for public comment is TOMORROW Monday June 16!! See how to submit a comment at this awesome site: dredf.org/action-alert...

I think this means he knows he’s losing. The he being Miller who wrote this and Trump who has no other plays but lean into it and get more blowback.

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

The thing you gotta know when you hear anyone talk about crime and how to deal with it is the vast, vast majority of crime is out of necessity. If you alleviate that necessity- making sure people have housing, basic income, access to clean water, diapers, baby formula- you remove the need for crime.

I lived in Vienna for the entirety of my high school years. It was the closest thing to a socialist utopia I have ever experienced. I always felt safe even while taking public transport late at night with my high school friends, everything was so accessible. US could learn a lot from them.

Here's something I post from time to time. My answer to a reader who asked me: what could journalists do NOW to break with some of their more corrosive habits.

The fact that civilian leadership understands it can’t rein in the police without having their families physically threatened really is a democratic crisis.
