Once again, I wish all the people who told me I was hysterically overreacting about the far right authoritarianism years ago had been right. I would very much enjoy having been so wrong & would relish the chance to publicly admit how wrong I had been. But here we are.

Everyone who spent the past five years insisting that the “laws of politics” were still in effect despite Trump & his movement were & are wrong. What we’d expect to happen at every crisis point never did. The heuristics & models in polisci are the wrong models for what has been happening. 3/

A good government agency is nearly invisible. You have safe food, clean water, stable power etc and you never have to think about it. The best societies have boring bureaucracy notices in the paper and not much else.
