Trump and Bukele are power-hungry rulers, yet suddenly neither has the power to return Kilmar to his family. Bullshit. Trump is paying Bukele to keep Kilmar in prison. If asking Bukele doesn’t work (it will), stop paying him. This isn’t complicated. But it is inhumane.

Trump is defying a Supreme Court judgement to return a man wrongfully deported to a foreign prison without any due process. This. Is. A. Constitutional. Crisis. Not that you would know from today’s front pages. Most suggest it’s all El Salvador’s fault. A colossal failure of mainstream media.

Move over Liz Truss lettuce, bring it on ultra-processed Donald Trump. More staying power with less quality I suppose.

“I was just following orders” was not a defense at Nuremberg. And it won’t be a defense in the future here.

I don’t think a better headline could have been written about what happened yesterday. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Rolling Stone calling it like it is. The NYT and WaPo should be taking notes.

He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. He’s defying the Supreme Court. Don’t you see what’s happening here?

The refusal to provide people due process before shipping them off to foreign prisons is criminal and intolerable. It must not be normalized. Everyone who believes in justice and America needs to speak up now.

We must all stand as a united front against the kidnapping and illegal detention of Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador. Senator, I am willing to join you and help Organize other members of the House to do the same. @vanhollen.senate.gov

If President Trump can wrongly deport a Maryland father to a prison in El Salvador and then defy a 9-0 Supreme Court order to facilitate bringing him home, who’s next? This threatens the rights and freedoms of everyone in the United States.

There is no strategy. No check. No balance. Just the arbitrary whimsy one man, who knows that he can never be held accountable for the shit storm he has unleashed on the markets and the constitutional order. open.substack.com/pub/charlies...

Inside a bomb shelter for schoolchildren, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Scott Pelley. The school is mourning after a Russian missile killed nine children on a playground. Tonight on 60 Minutes.

Most of the damage caused by Trump's tariff plan will not be undone by its pause, Rogé Karma writes. “The world has seen things it cannot unsee”:

They just love them some Putin.

just gonna get "corporatism and authoritarianism are jointly supplanting real journalism with state media propaganda and pseudo-journalistic infotainment" tattooed on my forehead

The House passed the SAVE Act, which will disenfranchise millions of voters, including women who change their last names after marriage. We need to be making it easier, not harder, for Americans to exercise their right to vote.

Donald Trump is not a king, and Congress is not powerless. Republicans have a choice to make. They can continue to bow down to Donald Trump while he sabotages our economy, or they can stand up for the American people who elected them and vote to end this tariff game.

This is the sort of messaging that every R1 university president should have been offering in loud, joint public press conferences at the US Capitol the entire last month. Instead, 🦗🦗

I'm calling for an investigation into whether President Trump manipulated the market to benefit his Wall Street donors—all while working people and small businesses paid the price. Did Trump help insiders cash in on his tariff flip-flopping? It sure looks like corruption.

Our economy is not a toy you can rattle around without consequence. These actions affect real people, their retirements, their grocery bills, and their small businesses. Donald Trump’s only strategy is being hellbent on ruining our reputation and credibility around the world.

Journalists: you cannot deport U.S. citizens out of their own country. Do not simply regurgitate the words of the administration if those words are inaccurate. To do so is spreading disinformation. Deportation, according to the govt itself, is for people with no legal right to be here.

It falls to Congress to unravel Trump’s reckless tariffs - @warren.senate.gov for @financialtimes.com on.ft.com/4jpFuVJ

This crisis is like the COVID pandemic except it's caused by a guy who ran for president on a platform of "I have engineered a virus that will shut down the global economy, and if you elect me, I will release it"

Another similarity between Trump & Truss is that we risk fixating too much on them personally. As I wrote here, the bigger question is how people so unfit to govern were put in positions of power. And that's about the systemic failures of their parties & political systems unherd.com/2023/01/liz-...

President Trump is using the Abrego Garcia case to establish a truly chilling proposition: that no one can stop him from imprisoning anyone he wants anywhere else in the world never to be seen or heard from again. His dream is to preside over a police state. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/o...

Remember, the Republicans could stop this tariff idiocy.

Kidnapping. Capturing a person against their will without due process is called kidnapping. Transporting them to another country without due process is called human trafficking. A squalid extrajudicial prison for people found guilty of no crime is called a concentration camp.

For perspective, not only a 1,500% increase in ICE detention and transport but that's 5x the budget of the entire federal Bureau of Prisons, or 3x the budget of the entire Coast Guard.

This resolution from @meeks.house.gov @neal.house.gov @repricklarsen.bsky.social, which I cosponsored, has privilege on the House floor. We are going to force House Republicans to vote on Trump's crazy tariffs and the destruction they are unleashing on our economy.

@markwarner.bsky.social WTF? Why are you STILL voting for Trump nominees?

As a reminder, when Trump says he is putting massive tariffs on China, or any nation, that means he is putting a massive tax on YOU. China doesn't pay a single penny. You, the consumer, do.

The Trump Admin sent armed marshals in a mafia-style intimidation campaign to silence and intimidate a witness set to testify in my spotlight hearing with @schiff.senate.gov. Today, Liz Oyer appeared undaunted, standing for what is right, lawful and just, to give her testimony.

Just call it surrender. Stop playing word games. The United States of America is surrendering to Russia.

House Republicans have the power to bring legislation to the floor to stop Trump’s ridiculous tariffs. If they cared about the American people, they’d do it now – before even more damage is done.

The year after Trump’s last tax giveaway, Amazon paid $0 in federal income taxes, while the typical Boston public school teacher paid about $10,000. I asked Senate Republicans: Can we agree that no billionaire corporation should get another tax handout? Republicans voted no.
