As a result of Trump’s slashes to research funding, dozens of graduate programs have announced reductions and cancellations of graduate admissions slots. If you are an impacted applicant, please fill out this survey: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... 🧪🧠🧬🔬🥼👩🏼‍🔬🧑‍🔬

…Ohio is beating you right now. Respond accordingly.

TWO WEEKS UNTIL #STANDUPFORSCIENCE2025! 📣☀️🌎

I've spent the day working with Reporter data... differences in number of funded applications from 1/20/24-2/21/24 and 1/20/25-2/21/25 by state. This is the picture (happy to share code):

The University of Pittsburgh confirmed Friday that there would be no new Ph.D. offers of admission while Pitt works to understand how reduced federal aid could impact the institution.

If you don’t match to an #APPIC internship today and are wondering what next, join us Monday evening to get some tips about how to move forward with the process in Phase 2 and beyond. This is not the end! #clinicalpsychology

Diversity-focused pages begin to disappear from Pitt websites https://buff.ly/41a0I29

Incredible news! The Trump administration's under 19 trans care ban has been BLOCKED in federal court via a bench temporary restraining order. The administration CANNOT withhold funds from hospitals providing trans youth care. ACLU statement here:

NoA NOTIFICATION REQUEST Re-upping this request now that NIH staff are apparently allowed to make awards. If anyone receives a NoA starting today and continuing forward, please DM me with information about the mechanism and institute or center. THANK YOU I hope to full up my DMs with good news

This week, Popular Information broke the news that the NIH had frozen virtually all grant funding in violation of two federal court orders. On Wednesday, NIH leadership distributed a memo acknowledging that its funding freeze was illegal and directing staff to resume issuing grants.

This is wild… From my own experience, so many labs within NIMH depend on IRTA fellows to function. The entire program gives young researchers and clinicians hands-on experience and career opportunities that are hard to find elsewhere. This will absolutely slow down research and limit future talent…

New from @stuartbuck.bsky.social Indirect cuts likely not valid. I suspected as much but did not offer an opinion because I did not truly know. This is also how opinions should work. open.substack.com/pub/goodscie...

🚨RED ALERT for 🧪: The Trump NIH just gashed indirect costs. This is a direct attack on universities. “Pursuant to this Supplemental Guidance, there will be a standard rate of 15% across all NIH grants for indirect costs.” 😮 Just a devastating Friday night news dump. #scicomm #academicaky

As the executive branch initiates rapid orders/changes, and agencies scramble to keep up, implement, or pause implementation of each order, clear, fast communication is needed within the psychological community. This new site will have all of the latest updates you need: updates.apaservices.org

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

If anyone's looking for an easy way to reach out to their Congress folk, RESISTbot is still working. Text RESIST to 50409 or go to resist.bot and you can quickly compose an email, fax, or letter to your reps. I sent a hotly worded screed about the admin's attacks on science & got an actual reply

If anyone is looking to be engaged and feels overwhelmed by how to start, or if you just want a time saving tool, this is for you. You can call your rep in 2 min. You set your location, pick an issue important to you, and it provides the reps phone # and a script you can tailor. Try it: 5calls.org

I created a R script to see how many times one of those words came up in my recent NSF grant submission. The answer was 355 (!) times. Laughing but crying. Mostly crying. Here's the code if you want to try it on your grant: github.com/calvinklai/d...

ALERT: CITI Training down! New trainee reported this message when completing her IMPORTANT and REQUIRED research ethics training "The content of this module is currently under review by CITI Program in light of the recent Executive Orders published in 2025."

On top of 5000 problems here: FEMALE AND WOMEN IS ON THE LIST BUT MALE AND MEN ARE NOT. JUST AN FYI.

SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT NIH FUNDING Closed sessions of institute and center Advisory Counsel meetings are now permitted. This is where grant applications are discussed and approved for potential funding. Open sessions where there are public presentations and discussions are still not allowed.

According to a senior CDC official, some of the pages that were removed on Friday have been reinstated due to backlash from the scientific community and the public. Keep speaking up, it matters!

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

📢 Hey #PsychSciSky hive mind! I’m working on some exciting secondary data analysis and need to understand a numbered (but unlabeled) dataset. Does anyone have access to the items for the BASC-2️⃣ (not 3️⃣!) PRS-Preschool? I’d be eternally grateful for leads! 🙏🏻 #ClinPsych #devpsy #Skychiatry

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period? "End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text." This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new! www.nngroup.com/articles/wri...

Two stages of writing: 1) This shouldn't take too long 2) Oh no

We even wrote a paper on how to do just that, for your language, concepts, AND statistics. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
