When I started writing THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDON, I knew that I wanted the book to be about two estranged sisters finding their way back to one another. Today I’m sharing a bit more about writing about sisters and some favorite books on my Substack: juliakellywrites.substack.com/p/writing-ab...

Happy to have been #gifted some book mail from @simonandschuster.bsky.social today; a copy of The Dressmakers of London by @juliakellywrites.bsky.social ! #booksky #historicalfiction

I love The Dressmakers of London by @juliakellywrites.bsky.social. It's filled with fabulous historical details, family troubles, and class snobbery. You won't be able to put it down! My review was first posted on Bookreporter.com.

I’m thrilled that my friend @msheatherwebb.bsky.social will be joining me for a virtual event presented by Warwick’s in La Jolla, CA this weekend! We will be chatting about THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDON on Saturday at 10 a.m. PST. The event is free with registration: www.warwicks.com/event/kelly-...

I adore knitting and would go so far as to say that it’s a vital part of my writing career in that it gives me downtime to churn through and process ideas. Sewing on the other hand? Let’s just say that the seam ripper and I are great friends... juliakellywrites.substack.com/p/skills-pas...

I’m on a mission to read some of huge bestsellers that have passed me by. This week, I’m reading THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE by V.E. Schwab. What are you reading this weekend?

Get yourself a little sister (@ishouldreadthat.bsky.social) who is happy to brainstorm business strategy with you on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. 🥰

I’m delighted to see THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDON included in Women’s World’s list of 9 Historical Fiction Books That Focus on Fashion—Glamor, Secrets & Drama Await along with some favorite authors of mine! www.womansworld.com/entertainmen...

I'm spending the afternoon dreaming up new adventures for Evelyne Redfern and David Poole! Where would you like to see their next investigations take them?

So happy to have my hands on @juliakellywrites.bsky.social latest historical novel The Dressmakers of London. Can’t wait to get stuck in! Out February 2025. Thank you so much Julia! #historicalfiction

Latest read: I absolutely ADORED this beauty by @juliakellywrites.bsky.social, the story of 2 estranged sisters fighting to save their dressmaking store. It's warm, heartfelt & engulfing, with that indefinablehappy-making quality. Out next month.

The Gentleman treated me to an early birthday trip to Jane Austen’s House in Chawton, Hampshire this weekend! It’s probably not a huge surprise that I have loved her novels for years, so it was really special to get to see the house where she wrote them.

My latest historical novel THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDO is nearly here! This part epistolary novel set in 1942 tells the story of Izzie and Sylvia, two estranged sisters reunited after they inherit their mother’s struggling London dress shop. juliakellywrites.substack.com/p/read-your-...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Charlotte Vassell’s THE OTHER HALF late last year, so I was thrilled when I received THE IN CROWD for Christmas! I’ve found these books wry and witty, and I enjoy the dynamic between detectives Caius, Matt, and Amy. What are you reading right now?

Reviewers, there is still time to request THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDON on NetGalley! Good luck, and happy reading! www.netgalley.com/catalog/book...

Really living on the edge here doing social media work on a train with wifi that drops in and out.

Congratulations and happy release day to Fiona Davis! Her eighth historical novel THE STOLEN QUEEN came out today! I love Fiona’s NYC-based historical novels, and I can’t wait to read this one!

Just a few of the tools it takes to get the author business up and running again after two weeks off for the holidays…

It’s the most wonderful day of the pre-Christmas season…cupcake day! These cupcakes have become legendary in my family. They’re send every year by one of my publishers, and we all look forward to them!

I run an interview series called Ask an Author with writers of some of your favorite new releases! I'm rounding out the year with the wonderful @hazelgaynor.bsky.social and @msheatherwebb.bsky.social and their delightful book CHRISTMAS WITH THE QUEEN! juliakellywrites.substack.com/p/ask-an-aut...

It’s been a gorgeous, wintery week in the English countryside full of bracing walks in the cold and warm cups of tea upon returning home. ❄️

Too soon? The Midnight Hour paperback out 5th December. 🎁 Mincepie bought for promo purposes only, obvs. (Was delicious.) #books @michaeljbooks.bsky.social

I usually keep Fridays for the admin, accounting, etc. of being an author but my WIP is finally flowing and I cannot wait to get back to it. Anyone who has written a book knows you just ride that feeling for as long as possible because it doesn’t stick around forever.

Fancy having a character named after you in the next novel by @Beathhigh #MargaretAtwood #RobertHarris or #TracyChevalier? Today's the last day for bids in the @FfTMCR auction. Link here: literary.freedomfromtorture.org/list_lots

I’m currently working on a first draft and I know I have development edits for another book coming back shortly with a turnaround so naturally all the laundry is done, I’ve bled the radiators, I’ve vacuumed, and I’m contemplating mopping the floors.

3,000+ writing day reward. (Pray for my wrists.)

An introduction! I write historical novels as well as the Evelyne Redfern mystery series. I'm a US/UK dual national living in the UK, so I say things a bit funny in 2 countries. I knit a lot (like a lot) and read a lot (again, like a lot). Follow me for writing, reading, knitting, expat adventures!

Bed writing has evolved into “in front of the fire” writing today because of the snow. It is a vast improvement.

Once upon a time, I had a rule that I never wrote in bed because good sleep hygiene blah blah blah my last two books have been written propped up in bed and nowhere else. Send help.

After writing yesterday morning, I had an excellent excuse to glam up a bit in the form of recording some promo video ahead of the release of THE DRESSMAKERS OF LONDON! (Also, look at how great my Cumulus Blouse turned out! Love this knitting pattern!)

Is the best part of the Martha Stewart documentary Martha Stewart herself or messaging with one of my BFFs about our unabashed love for the icon that is Martha Stewart while watching it?
