Lala figured out how to take selfies. Help.

This by Dan Savage is I think important to keep top of mind. It speaks to the point I made earlier that bad news is never the only news.

Saying you can't fight fire with fire indicates to me you've never been in wildfire management. It's called a backburn and it's often more effective than dumping water on a fire out of control. So...is this a campfire or a wildfire you think we're looking at?

I'm not okay. Woke up to the sound of heavy pounding on the door. I had my πŸ”«in my hand before I was even fully awake, sure ICE was here to try to take us. It was another 15 seconds before I realized that it was just the dog scratching and accidentally hitting the door with his foot while he did it.

Hey just so you know: you don't have to doomscroll. It will not save the world, it will not stop the slow decline of anything, it will not help you. Stay aware, stay informed, but know when to log off. This PSA brought to you by waking up and feeling terrible mentally.

This phrasing and context resonates deeply with me. 😁

"Rampant Spread of Misinformation" mixed media collage by Lisa Sheets, 13" x 10", 2021. I'm here. Ready to ditch most of Facebook. Who's here with me?

Things look grim, my niblings, but then things have always looked grim. At no point has life been easy, kittens and rainbows for every single person at any point in time. Things have been 'better', things have been 'worse'. That doesn't mean we stop. Our hope is their poison. Even when it's hard.

Something that is really going to be more necessary than ever is embracing uncertainty and it's actually the most difficult thing for human beings to do. It really is. But everyone needs to practice. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. That means there's a possibility your actions can make a difference

I say again - our joy is their poison. Let them choke on our laughter and our happiness. I do not say this is easy, but it's better than allowing them their miserly, pitiful smugness.

THIS

I'm now offering immoral support. We're gonna be a little evil starting today. As a treat.

The point of the firehose of Executive Orders is to disorient and to demobilize. It's to instill maximum fear. If we know this, then that's already half the battle. This means that we have to respond with focus on those most vulnerable & targets. It means we have to refuse their attempt to scare us.

Before the inauguration: Chop wood, carry water, support trans rights After the inauguration: Chop wood, carry water, support trans rights

These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

anyway

Remember, my rainbow loves, that our joy is a knife in their back and a needle in their eye. They want our despair. Don't give it to them, at least in public. Go listen to too much Queen and remember, we have always been here. We will always be here. We are the night terror they cannot shake.

How to balance 'I just want a place I can curate to see what I want to see' vs 'if you look at anything that's not on fire and dying you're part of the problem'. My mental health is wrecked y'all, and I'm one of the ones fighting against the problems. My sympathetic nervous system is SHRIEKING.
