I'm writing some fantasy this year. Dipping a toe into the deep, dark and mysterious pond of romance. Probably bumbling into every cliche in existence on the way.

The parties included a 7, 8, and 4-year-old. "None of the children were accompanied by parents or attorneys." "The 4-year-old girl in the tie-dye shirt raised her hand, dangling her pink plushy above her head. It wasn’t clear – was she responding to the question, or just playing with her toy?"

One of my special interests is art and graphic design. I like creating book covers in Canva. Where does designing a book cover using Canva sit in regards to the AI art situation, in your view? This is limited to NOT using the AI to generate images, only the stock from Canva or my own.

Just popping in to say Hello and hope you're all doing well. I am mostly Out Of Office at the moment for family reasons but one day I will return. Until then...have wonderful lives!

Rare login to social media. First thing seen: Wonder Woman game cancelled, studio closed. Feel all the feelings about the current cultural and political shitfest. See it in a very, very bad light. Sends sympathy and tea to all. Logs out of social media.

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references. Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

As the super stupid person who didn't like a book of his but kept editing a remark on Goodreads without realising every edit got posted to Twitter (for which I am eternally sorry, send myself straight to hell, see myself out) I am a hundred percent here for that quote below. Yes. How very well put.

Has some whiz kid come up with a term for that thing that happens when your meanings cross contaminate each other so that you worry that if you start drinking green tea then black tea will be less your friend than it is now? Is that a thing? Like pareidolia, but bigger and much more contagious.

I have done this, but I don't believe for an instant that it couldn't all be restored/background tracked. Am I too cynical?

Just been on BBC R Scotland. Dismayed that in a discussion about the future under Trump, no caller nor the host mentioned the urgency of action on climate breakdown until I was on. Then, host tried to deflect. To join us in telling the truth and calling for urgent action visit www.juststopoil.org

Definitely time to stock up.

listen, it’s objectively hilarious that trying to track down this passage led me to The British Association of Anger Management still, “Run Away” (2019) by Irish poet David Whyte gets at today’s messy, complicated stew of emotions better than anything else I’ve read www.angermanage.co.uk/run-away/

it is really weird to see "all sff authors in the 80s were bigots" while reading a hugo award winning novel by a lesbian in the 80s who wrote about alien lion women doing politics

WOOING THE WITCH QUEEN by Stephanie Burgis - Review @stephanieburgis.bsky.social

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

The People’s March in Washington 👏

Y'all should be reading Aliette too....

Having taken part in an event of this type, I can say that human imagination is a vital ingredient in considering how people (as individuals and groups) will act and react in future situations and what we will need to do to keep people and resources safe. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

I couldn't believe this when I found out about it in the early 2000s. I thought she had either died or stopped writing. But no.

Thanks, love! x I endorse this list. :P

Those who follow me know I’ve been calling out lies & challenging misinformation for many years. But even at its worst I’ve never known it this bad. I know many are feeling hopeless right now. But that’s what they want - to wear you down & make you give up. Don’t let them. We can beat this, TOGETHER

Over the last six months I investigated the following rabbit holes: UAPs, the ancient mythology of Yorkshire, sasquatch, lizard people, an assortment of very strange ancient stone workings, the occult and dogmen. Is that all of the High Strange or is there more?

In a book I wrote one of my characters says they hate the word 'cis'. He goes on to say why but I hate it - not for the meaning and all that goes with it, not at all. I hate it because I keep reading it as if it's Latin and my tongue goes to do a hard 'c' and then I have to stop and do the 's' sound
