That AI article is pressing down on me. I’ve been reading and teaching Langston Hughes, & Hamlet again. So beautiful & meaningful & intentional. I only want to read literature like this. I only want to write stories like this. 1/2

Who asked for any of this?

I hate these arguments based on relevance but: 1. Latin is still exceptionally relevant 2. Everyone should have a chance to study it 3. Sitwell imagines a world of soulless worker bees who are allowed no interests 4. Doing interesting things for their own sake is an important act of resistance

5 years ago school sent us all home with link to google classroom and a quick demo of google meet. And that was that for the next few months. A time of personal and national suffering and loss. And also the most beautiful spring I can remember. 1/3

It feels like I’ve been ill for forever (it’s 5 weeks). But might have turned a corner today. In the meantime, the local park has bloomed

When is World Chapbook Day? That’s what we’d like to know.

I have just made the gingeriest of ginger biscuits

Hello, Bluesky! Please forgive the following publicity. The lovely people at Sigri Arts Retreat have invited me to tutor one of their creative writing weeks this July.

Read this wonderful poem with Grade 11 this afternoon. The links to today had us shaking our heads in disbelief - as pertinent now as in 1936 when Langston Hughes wrote it. youtu.be/kU4_nS2YDLk?...

My friends at Sigri Arts Retreat (based on the Greek island of Lesvos) are busy preparing their programmes for this summer, June to September. Retreats and classes in landscape and portrait painting, as well as tutored writing weeks. See their website for details www.sigriartsretreat.com

Mimosa time! Lighting up a dark and stormy day in Rome

Signs of spring against our urban landscape. When you live in a chaotic capital, it’s all in the detail #rome #spring

Looking forward to reading this!

With apologies for dropping a massive photo of my face on your timelines, I have news! My new novel, Night Babies will be out with John Murray in spring next year (although there will always be a place in my horrid black heart for @deadinkbooks.bsky.social 🖤) www.thebookseller.com/rights/lucie...

The Room Next Door - Donald Trump Plane Crash Fact Check

Daisies underneath olive trees make ideal companions. There’s a great tit jumping on squeaky bedsprings nearby, and one can almost imagine that spring will arrive at some point

And Marina Hyde is on fire today. Perfect punchline too www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This says it all, and so well written, too

Books read in January, for work and pleasure. Top pick is Orbital - for once I agree with the cover quotes. Mukasonga is fascinating on a lost family and culture. 1/3

Brilliantly done, @meganjstaylor.bsky.social I laughed - darkly, of course - and shivered. Not having children, perhaps I’m safe? Another corker from @nightjarpress.bsky.social

Such a lovely thing, a Nightjar post. Little treasures migrated all the way to Rome, fighting their way through the tempests to arrive safe and sound in my apartment. That’s this weekend’s reading sorted. @nicholasroyle.bsky.social @nightjarpress.bsky.social
