Early this year I watched every film I could find by dissident Iranian director Jafar Panahi - most of which are banned in Iran and/or were made 'illegally.' They served as great reminders that 1) a country is not its government and 2) creative avenues always exist in which to resist oppression.

I know it's corny as hell, but I'm so happy to see a smiling Sammy Sosa in Wrigley Field. It's bullshit that it took us 20 years to get here, but I'm over the moon that it has happened. I can't overstate how important he was to my generation; simply put, he was larger than life, he was everything.

Sosa back in Wrigley reminds me of when I went to see a Lions game and it was Barry Sanders' first time back after the retirement/falling out. In both cases it took way too long and was horseshit it ever happened in the first place.
