In my reporting for the Progress Report, I found that from April 2021 to April 2024, Alberta Health Services spending on contract nurses increased from $5 million to a peak of $150 million.

Between ADAP's current design, the question of who receives ADAP and who receives AISH, and the decision to reduce AISH by the amount of the federal disability benefit, the UCP government's handling of disability benefits is beyond frustrating. It's looking inhumane.

Any ideas about what sort of city council "procedures" have gotten the UCP government riled up? Especially, what is 4(c) about, with the minister able to specify matters relating to procedures that cannot be included in a bylaw? That's oddly specific.

Is Alberta using federal money as an excuse to cut shelter funding? The way they are using the new federal disability benefit of a max of $200/month to cut AISH benefits by the same amount?

This ABlawg post explains in detail why it can't be said that the UCalgary policies changed to disallow encampments in the mid-00's. They changed less than a year ago when UCalgary feared a pro-Palestine protest & tried to ensure they could issue a notice of trespass. bsky.app/profile/abla...

Hard to believe the judge called it a "particularly grave hate crime" and said the perpetrator's actions "were not ideologically motivated."

One of the worst examples of this morally debased and malicious human being confidentially proving there is no limit to the depth of his vileness: "We don't have to buy. There's nothing to buy. We will have Gaza. ... It's a war torn area. We're going to take it."
