Ah, that makes more sense. These last few weeks have been a crash course on the inner workings of the grant agencies. good to know but also I would have preferred a simple powerpoint as opposed to throw a wrench in the spokes and see what breaks

Does this only apply to NIH? Would NSF and DOE also need to announce meetings in the federal registry to make funding decisions?

DOE sent a message saying their diversity plan would not be reviewed or scored by asking reviewers to not consider it. Applicants were given a choice to either leave as is or submit a new proposal with only that document removed. Seems minimally disruptive for proposals already submitted.

That would be great! While I want 42, I’m not so sure I want to be working long enough to get to that milestone.

UWM Office of Research only sent a message that they are aware of the situation and monitoring.... in other words, stop bothering us we have other things to do

thats the plan and seems all I can do at the moment. Its all very deflating and I know this is a general feeling

Saw that email this morning, here's to hopping this means they are still continuing to review proposal... NSF and NIH seem to have had that function shut down from the sound of it. So far all my efforts these last couple months getting proposals in feels like a waste

Definitely expect delays and possible issues/availability of car rentals.

I won’t be going either, the $$ well has run dry, but I would imagine LAX might be the better option to fly in. Burbank is right at the center of the palisades/hurst/eaton fires. I think the drive is going to be a headache from anywhere until you drop into Ventura

Starting my lab/independent career in 2019 was tough and it seems like it has taken longer than I hoped to get projects moving, especially after a couple that failed to pick up steam, but I’m excited for our next steps!! 2/3

We are trying a big magnet on the p-trap of the sink, see if we can catch those stir bars before they escape. The others I have no solution for

That line leaves the door open to justify many future cuts, I guess saying the quiet part out loud

Meanwhile "tenure must be balanced with demand" might be the worst line in a very bad message

A Parks and Rec/Office take on academia would be perfect , wouldn’t even need to embellish much

Another thing to look into, many places (VWR and fisher mentioned it) will reactivate the new lab discounts if you get new lab space (say an extra room)
