What could go wrong

You must be very selective in your news sources. They can’t block nominees because there are 53 republicans so they don’t need democrats at all — republicans also have enough votes to push them through in minimum time.

There was a rule change to the senate filibuster in 2013 for one thing and for another more recently McConnell always had more Rs than democrats do now and also had Sinema and Manchin often voting with Rs.

You voted all the democrats out of office. That’s why they can’t do anything.

Smaller outfits like Guardian uk and The Nation are more free to publish stronger interpretations.

Netanyahu held up the cease fire until the election to give Trump (who he favored) an advantage. Now he is extracting a favor in return - making Trump take this on.

Russia collapsed public healthcare funding while elites still received top-tier private treatment. Venezuela severe shortages of medicine & doctors, but ruling elites accessed foreign hospitals. Private research . big pharma and ability to pay for experimental treatments will cover them

Part Two:

A lot of people don’t know that

They act collectively.

A democratic senator can’t do anything about it — we (collectively) voted them out of office so republicans are in charge of everything.

This isn’t a bill proposed, it is an internal takeover by the executive branch. That’s why the executive branch took over DOJ first.

Right now only the republicans have that power because they are the majority party - the democrat senators only have the filibuster, delay tactics and the ability to call a hearing

Democrats in the senate have very few tools at their disposal because they are the minority party — they can filibuster, delay votes and call hearings. It is actually republicans that should be holding the White House to account.
comment in response to post
That would happen if it were an external takeover. This is an internal takeover. They established control of DOJ first.

Republicans have the house and senate. Democrats only have the power to filibuster, delay the vote and call hearings and not much else right now.

I wouldn’t say all practical approaches are lost but that already happened. DOJ threatened anyone obstructing DOGE. this is the acting FBI director he’s only there until Patel is approved by Senate.
comment in response to post
So the DOJ already threatened anyone who impedes DOGE. The FBI almost got purged today and probably only bought a few days.
comment in response to post
That would happen if an outside force were taking over - this is an internal takeover. The people that would enforce the law would have to arrest people they report to.

Republicans have 53 votes in the senate and therefore the power to approve all their candidates - they don’t need Democrats at all.

I think all of it together is meant to overwhelm us. They’ve called it “flood the zone” and “muzzle velocity”. It’s encouraging he’s already had losses : birthright citizenship and freezing all federal funds were legally contested and won.

Also he didn’t say yell at the GOP. He’s pointing out there are no legal tools left and anything illegal you’re suggesting would swiftly be beaten down since they have more power

J6 was an attack on democrats and they’ve been making threats to democrats since they were released that’s unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. It’s not just on the lawmakers themselves but also their families and staff
comment in response to post
A lot of the stuff that made Biden look ineffective was because the Supreme Court, which is already “captured” and belonging to the authoritarians, blocked him. they have been giving Trump a bunch of victories even while he’s out of office.
comment in response to post
Yes, they are willing to be violent and corrupt.
comment in response to post
I don’t think he said that - I’ve seen a lot of people not understanding how dire the situation is and threatening to never vote democrat again not realizing they really don’t have the tools
comment in response to post
Right but we (collectively) voted a bunch of democrats out of office so the ones left have little power. They can filibuster, call for a hearing and delay voting and that’s about it.
comment in response to post
There’s no press anymore - we’re down to @wired.com and @teenvogue.com the others are basically state media. If we want something to happen we can’t look to other people- we’re (collectively) the ones who voted democrats out of office and unsubscribed from the press.
