I think you're right in the way it's used here. It was initially less intentionally derogatory but still a gendered construct to prescribe certain roles were considered feminine i.e. seamstress. It sounds weird in fantasy though 😂 www.etymonline.com/word/-ess

If I wanted to overanalyse then I'd say it's the ideal nostalgia gap paired with a yearning for a simpler time. But really Oblivion is a sick game 🤘
