Still ambivalent about the best way to work with the Never-Trumpers, but it is genuinely interesting seeing how many of them have turned into normie libs since 2016

The fun thing about these guys (Malayan Night Herons) is that they’re stupidly rare and hard to find in most of their range… except in Taiwan where they stalk around city parks like a bunch of weird predatory chickens

Yes American history is mostly mid to bad. Yes the Union armies screaming freedom hymns as they charged to their deaths to break the chains of millions is fucking amazing and something we should live up to. Why is this hard.

And I think most of what we lost via Gaza (beyond the votes of sympathetic minorities not knowing whether to choose Scylla or Charybdis) was the enthusiasm of people willing to persuade their coworkers. It's awfully hard to punch at them when demobilizing them was explicit strategy.

FWIW this already happens a lot with grants from private donors that have overhead restrictions; grantees will just inflate the costs of everything else to fit in more overhead. So my prediction is that this leads to even more distortion (along with less research)

Very true although I suspect that they’d find little to disagree with in Larry Niven’s work
