The Trump administration's efforts to slash research funding have US graduate students, postdocs and other early-career scientists fearing for their careers. Some might leave the country -- or abandon research altogether. https://go.nature.com/43ao2zq

What an absolutely amazing time to be : An immigrant on a visa (because who doesnā€™t love living in limbo?)ā€¦ From a country with permanent residency backlog (thank you, for the endless wait!)ā€¦ Applying for tenure track this year (fierce competition, limited opportunities & existential dread!)

Donā€™t know if itā€™s the cold or the weather (IYKYK)ā€¦could be the gradual loss of enthusiasm under the constant state of stress, deadlines and uncertainty about the futureā€¦or maybe just some internal goals which havenā€™t been accomplishedā€¦.with no clear en in sightā€¦ But 2025 till now has been toughā€¦

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year 2025! šŸŽ‰ May this year bring the rise of unbiased science, innovative research, and the growth of academia. Hereā€™s to a remarkable year ahead! šŸŒŸ #HappyNewYear #Research #Academia

In our recent review, we explore how demographic diversityā€”due to age, gender, race, ethnicityā€”significantly influences platelet phenotypes & responses to antiplatelet therapies. www.cell.com/trends/pharm... #Platelets #Age #Gender #Race #Ethnicity #Demographicdiversity #PopulationDiversity #CVD

How to get invited to give talks as an early career investigator? Any tips/opportunities would be appreciated!

How to write a grant? 1. The application is for the reviewer, not you, the applicant. 2. Communicate in stories. 3. Make your story cohesiveā€”leave no puzzling gaps. 4. Make your story resonate to keep the reviewer reading. 5. Accept chance and noise in peer-review. www.pnas.org/doi/epub/10....

Faculty mentoring in academic institutions, a thread. As I advance in my academic career (read: as I keep getting more gray hair), I've come to appreciate, even more than before, the profound responsibility we (senior-ish faculty) have to support and nurture emerging talent, not diminish it.

Academia, with its champions (mentors/PIs, manuscripts, grants, reviewers) & the struggles of visas/immigrationā€”feels like a suffocating quagmire, really messing up mental health & well-being. Does the landscape shift on the other side of the equation? Is there a glimmer of hope? #academicsky

There's a fine line between a mentor and a boss... One holds your hand to ensure your smooth journey, while the other secretly hopes you trip, just so they can bask in the glory of your 'thank you' for their 'help'!ā€¦ #justsaying #academicsky

Question for the experienced: 1. Can junior faculty (research track) such as staff scientists, instructors, ARS, be a Co-I for RO1 grants by their PIs? 2. How is this perceived in the study sections? 3. Does this help the junior faculty in academic job market? Any feedback appreciated!
