Truly the worst intersection. A constant reminder that your life is worth nothing in the face of driver convenience.

This has got to be one of the most dangerous intersections for pedestrian safety in the city. I used to cross here regularly, but have stopped in recent years because I don't want to be killed by a speeding Impala.

Boy, if I thought the euphemism "event centre" was an annoying thing to call an arena.... Nothing, no nothing, could prepare me for the rhetorical violence of "Event park"

Please come to this! We have some great speakers lined up, and there will be SNACKS and socializing too.

Zoning in theory: we need land use regulation to keep homes away from sources of pollution. Zoning in practice: the only places you can build new housing are right next to the highways and high-traffic streets that are your city’s largest sources of pollution.

Building on the nautical theme, deep dive doesn't begin to describe the work @klaszus.bsky.social gives us. Here's another Sprawlcast researched meticulously, connecting dots over decades to deepen our understanding of our city and ourselves. www.sprawlcalgary.com/glenmore-lan...

What a legend

When are we going to stop treating housing like it's pollution? This is an appalling outcome.

This is a shameful day for the province. We are spending billions on a line that no one will ride, and admitting that their elevated alignment is impossible and never will be built.

Reminder: cities use zoning to prevent supportive housing, social housing, and apartments. They make each of those discretionary. They never use it to prevent mansion districts; quite the contrary. They use it to make exclusively-mansion districts. Take away this power. It sucks.

Anyone know the data for #yyc ? Would be interesting to put in front of #YYCCC who say they represent ALL Calgarians.

What are we waiting for?

Take note Calgary…

This one’s a banger

Have you, like me, been longing for more trumpet content on this platform? Well the wait is over…

The future is already here. It's just broadly illegal.

This comes a no surprise to me. There is and was nothing wrong with the process for relaxing restrictive zoning and it is perfectly intra vires.

If only we prioritized our sidewalks like we prioritize our roads. The alternative is keeping a significant population locked in their homes... Or blood.

This was probably my favorite volts episode of all time. Biking is good for your mental, social, and physical health

Something that has become very clear to me from working on housing and urban policy more generally is that a lot of people — including a lot of professional advocates — think that there's a way to do policymaking without any tradeoffs, and the existence of tradeoffs means you did something wrong.

Driver: Can I get the 9,000 pound, 1000HP electric Hummer? You can drive it home today! Do I need a special license? Nope! Do I need any extra driver training? None whatsoever! So I can just drive off in this monster truck? Enjoy! Community: Can we get a speed bump? City: we’ll do some studies

I’ve been waiting for laundry sky for so long, so I can talk about the benefits of not having a clothes dryer

This might sound like a hot take but friends: Read books as a hobby this year. It is one of the best things you can do for your brain to grow your thinking and perspectives. If you want to be anti-consumption get a library card. Bonus: in places like UK/AoNZ/CA library copies pay authors

I feel this so hard as a parent. My kids have so much less autonomy than I did at their age to roam the neighbourhood and go places on their own, and they miss out on cognitive and social benefits because we've designed our cities to effectively exclude them from the public realm.
