I'd like to make a counter-proposal: TTRPG folx are largely fine at telling stories, because: Tabletop stories should not align to the (western-centric, specific-to-linear-forms, already-conservative-even-in-discussions-of-linear-forms) "traditional" shape of stories.

To me it'll always be "games are about play from which stories can emerge" not "games are about telling a story." As someone who has worked in collaborative writing rooms for both stage and film, I'd say play made me a better writer, not the other way around.
