oh, and sorry I just saw this is kind of discussed below- but having one modality intact and not another goes against the idea that it's an all-encompassing lack of salience/descriptive ability for imagining, right?

Is it not equally parsimonious to conclude that V1 activity alone is not the sole source for mental imagery? Self-report is super flawed, but my experience with aphantasics is enough shared language to describe wildly different visual imagery, with control experience of shared auditory imagination.
