I am lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world, and to be able to go to places like Hylton Castle on a sunny day.

Life is so short. We are all going to die. Imagine choosing to inspire hate instead of sowing love. Imagine choosing profit over people. Imagine seeing the worst rather than hoping for the best. Love is what makes life tolerable and good. Those who take that away are the cruelest, most wretched.

"I fear war is coming." Astute article from James Fell on Substack, articulating what I also see plain as day, but with better sourcing, as is fitting for a historian. Please read.

My fiercest hunter baby. #catsofbluesky

If Zelenskyy is gambling with WW3, it's only because it's a game of Russian Roulette that he never agreed to, and Trump is the one holding the gun. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

Just finished: Someone You Can Build A Nest In, by John Wiswell. Almost gave up after the first couple of chapters, due to body horror, be warned! But I'm very glad I continued: the horror lessens and there is a wonderfully sweet love story there. Queer and disability inclusive. 💙📚

You know you're writing fantasy (or maybe SF I guess) when you find yourself specifying 'human woman', as opposed to any other kind of woman. And then scribble out the 'human' as unnecessary. And then reinstate it as very necessary. #writesky #writingcommunity

I'm so glad it's not just me. I mean, I'm not at all glad that it's happening at all, but yeah. You catch my drift.

After you acquire a billion dollars you should have to start the game over at a higher difficulty level

She has a new box. It is a good box. #catsofbluesky

I have emailed my MP asking why in the actual flaming hell the government is cutting foreign aid instead of instituting a wealth tax. (Without the exact phrase "flaming hell" but with the sentiment.) I suggest anyone else with a Labour MP might do likewise.

Cutting aid to fund defence, Mr Starmer, is both cruel and self-defeating. I agree we need to defend ourselves. But creating a less stable, less humane world is no way to do it.

I'm gonna remind people that I feel pretty strongly that if you bought one of my ebooks legitimately, then you own the book and however you secure that ownership is fine by me mashable.com/article/how-...

I filled this in earlier. It is tedious, badly constructed, and clearly intended to put you off completing it. But if you care about AI not taking over our lives and creative outputs, please take time to fill it in, even briefly. You can write as little as you like in the boxes.

You think you keep a clean house, and then a low beam of sunlight shines at just the wrong angle on the bookcases and proves how wrong you are. I guess that's why it's called ✨️spring✨️ cleaning.

I've filled in the UK govt consultation on new copyright rules. They propose letting AI models learn on copyrighted works on an opt-out basis (meaning your work will be scraped for generative AI by default). If you can (it closes today), register your objections here. #writersky #writingcommunity

It's easy to believe that The Way Things Are is also The Way Things Have Always Been as well as The Way Things Shall Forever Be. Late-stage neoliberal capitalism is new to the planet, and absolutely can and should be demolished.

Watching the world go by on a sunny Caturday - could life get any better? #catsofbluesky

Heads up!!! After February 25, you will no longer be able to download kindle books that you purchased. So make sure you take the time to download and save your library this weekend. And also, divest from Bezos and Amazon!!!

Presented without comment. #catsofbluesky

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

Just finished: The Lamplighter's Bookshop by Sophie Austin. For some reason I was expecting this to be more fantasy-y than romance-y, but once I'd re-calibrated myself it was a solid read and kept me up past midnight to finish it. 💙📚

Serving this ad up to a queer disabled neurodivergent lefty in the UK is certainly a choice that some algorithm thought was worthwhile in the current state of affairs.

I tidied up my stock box this morning and it's getting a bit full: time for a sale. 25% off all scarves, shawls and earwarmers, all handmade crochet. classicalcatcrochet.etsy.com

I tidied my yarn stash. I've no idea what I want to do with most of it, but at least I can now see it all. Not pictured: the same amount of yarn again in scraps. #craftsky #yarn

There's still time to make a change 🗣️ Add your name to this author-organised letter and encourage the government to change its course on copyright exemption for generative AI use of creatives works docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... #CreativeRights #ArtificalIntelligence #PayTheCreator

With the news that Amazon will soon end your ability to download purchased ebooks to your computer (in a clear precursor to implementing book banning): a brief reminder that my books are also available from Kobo, Smashwords, B&N, and others. #booksky 1/4

I found a local yarn store that I didn't even know existed 😬. I tried to be restrained in my purchasing, but it remains to be seen how long I can keep that up for. #crochetsky #yarn

"I never thought it would happen in MY lifeti-" But it did. It is. It's happening now. If you don't get off your ass and do something, anything, then it will happen in your lifetime and your kids' lifetimes and your grandkids' lifetimes.

Learning about random things that I'd never previously had an interest in is somehow both my favourite and least-favourite part of writing. I really never thought I'd ever know so much about medieval herbalism. #writesky

I took some new photos for the shop this morning. I remain very happy with this scarf. #crochetsky

She loves belly rubs. She would sell me down the river for belly rubs. She begs for belly rubs several times a day. #catsofbluesky

Reminder that you do not have to eat all the world’s sin. You need not—cannot possibly—bear witness to all the pain on the planet. Just be compassionate with the pain that you do bear witness to. There’s enough of it without constantly seeking it out.

Oh to be a little fluffy thing, snoozling on my playmat surrounded by my toys, without a single care in the world. #catsofbluesky #Caturday
