The whole world needs to start taking reducing road danger seriously and not accept 1.2 million deaths annually as a normal thing to happen. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...

“Bicycles offer a number of advantages in express delivery operations: they can bypass traffic congestion and make up to two times as many stops per hour than a delivery vehicle. The total cost of ownership over their lifetime is less than half that of a van.” - John Pearson, CEO, DHL Express Europe

This looks amazing 🚲❄

Clean air is a human right! Air pollution is a silent killer, claiming at least 7 million lives annually and fueling a growing health crisis. Health and care workers are calling on governments, businesses, and leaders to take urgent and decisive action.

SCOOP @bloomberg.com: Top officials at the US Department of Homeland Security received a memo from Sec. Kristi Noem on Friday ordering an immediate stop to work connected to climate change and the elimination of climate-related terms across the agency. Gift link: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

In Utrecht, every evening there is a near constant flow of people on bikes heading home from work or school. This continues through winter, despite the gloomy conditions. Enjoy this peaceful rush hour stream, beautifully captured by @bicycledutch.bsky.social. https://buff.ly/3ElZadK #DCEnetwork

Classic TV industry this. I often got emails while working on a TV production saying we care about your mental health and please report bullying from the person who was the bully/affecting my mental health deadline.com/2025/02/sara...

So now we have it. Rachel Reeves's claim that a third runway at Heathrow Airport would boost economic growth comes from a report commissioned by .... Heathrow Airport. Instead of acting in the national interest, she's channelling corporate lobbyists. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

"If we consider the needs of nondriving children, nondriving teens, nondriving adults and nondriving seniors all together, it begins to feel inexcusable to design communities that require car ownership and the ability to drive." -- @nondriver.bsky.social www.romper.com/parenting/sc...

Transport is the UK’s greatest contributor to climate change, and roads and aviation are the top polluters. ✈️🚌 Our new analysis shows how we can close the gap in meeting climate targets through more action on transport, while still ensuring growth.

Glasgow on this list 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️ momentummag.com/here-are-12-...

Every disaster movie starts with scientists being ignored. Good thing we’re not doing that.

But let's expand more runways and pretend that will help both the economy and the environment (aviation fuel leading g to net zero is doublespeak). Why don't the British press (I am including Scotland on this) challenge the Westminster government more on Brexit?

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I would add that they also won off the back of the hard work of a smart and kind black woman who is uncredited/written out of the narrative.

So more money for roads whilst the active travel budget has fallen. Transport CO2 levels remain stubbornly high. ☹️😩 You can take action against this here action.cyclinguk.org/page/162181/...

Edinburgh makes this list but not Glasgow 🤔 still good to see a positive post about 🚴‍♀️🚶‍♀️in 🏙

Released today, our research found that 92% of young women want to ride a bike, but participation is 4 times lower than men of the same age. www.theage.com.au/national/vic...

In 1993, major German energy suppliers ran adverts in newspapers claiming that renewable energy could only ever provide 4% to German electricity system. Fast forward to 2023 and almost 60% of German electricity comes from renewables, mainly wind and solar. www.cisl.cam.ac.uk/news/blog/wh...

“Coca-Cola is the biggest supplier of bottled water worldwide, followed by Danone, Nestlé and PepsiCo, according to Euromonitor International. Big Pharma is the only reason anyone still dies from HIV: “We have the means to eradicate AIDS as a threat to human life. Greed is keeping this from happening.”

I belong to Glasgow. But do I really? My piece for @glasgowbell.bsky.social about the guilt of living just over the East Renfrewshire boundary, and paying nothing towards the city's upkeep, something I've been musing on for a long time. www.glasgowbell.co.uk/should-glasg...

The great abandonment: what happens to the natural world when people disappear?

REMINDER: Those choosing to live in subsidized suburbs for a bigger house and yard are NOT also entitled to free-flow car traffic capacity (aka an “easy car commute”) into the city at the expense of the taxes, health, safety (hint: bike-lanes) & quality of life of city-dwellers. HT Ian Lockwood.

Fancy your own Powell & Pressburger festival? Currently on/heading to BBC iPlayer are I KNOW WHERE I'M GOING!, THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP and P&P doc MADE IN ENGLAND. My biggest pet peeve about public transit policy is when its only purpose is seen as commuting to work. A good transit system is there to support all kinds of trips at all times of the day, not only office commutes. Groceries, football games, coffee shop trips, concerts, etc.

💬 "About 7% of people educated in the UK attend private fee-paying schools. However, 43% of Britain’s best-selling classical musicians and 35% of Bafta-nominated actors are alumni of private schools." Great coverage of today's research in The Guardian ⤵️ www.theguardian.com/inequality/2...

NEW: Israeli authorities have caused massive, deliberate forced displacement of Palestinian civilians in Gaza since October 2023 and are responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Governments should adopt targeted sanctions and other measures, and halt weapons sales to Israel.
