Just saw a discussion online about this map showing the percentage of Poles currently living in their place of birth. Someone said,"You can see the "Recovered Territories. "I guess they don't feel connected to that land." And I say—born out of a journey, not afraid to keep moving. What do you think?

If you have a PhD thesis in European #envhist from the past two years, please consider applying. If you know someone who does, spread the word! eseh.org/call-for-sub...

This and other 1200 glass negatives, depicting the early postwar history in Goleniów in Pomerania were discovered in 2011. In various conditions, they survived and became re-worker. Yesterday, we opened an exhibition that together with the local community searches for people who were captured.

1/3 So there's the book. It was first published in German, as Under the Polish Administration, an outcome of the journey Charles Wassermann did in the 1950s through, what he has later named Europe's Forgotten Territories. It was, indeed, about what Poles called the Recovered Territories.

Hi, I'm a cultural anthropologist dealing with 👻 by connecting ethnography in post-displacement regions in 🇵🇱, 🇨🇿 & 🇸🇰 with study of archives to find out what were the encounters of humans and non-humans after the forced displacement of Germans post-1945. Recently, I published this book ⤵️.

#PolishAcademics I made a small starter pack for us so that it’s easier to move. You can ask me to be added to the pack. Let’s do it! go.bsky.app/Tm6tvau

📣The Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Historical dimensions of the Anthropocene #envhist #envhum

🗣️In a week, I want to take you with me to glass factories and spas along the Czech borderlands. These used to be owned and inhabited by German speaking communities. How to look into absence, a kind of spectral research journey. Feel invited 🙏

Projected final voter turnout: 72,9%!!! The biggest in my lifetime 🥲 This makes me so happy.

Fun fact from the Polish elections in Lower Silesia: One of the polling stations is located in Villa Wiesenstein - the former house of Gerhart Hauptmann, the German Nobel laureate for literature. So yes, some Poles are choosing the next government from Hauptmann’s basement.

How come the entangled pasts allow us to understand our present? This and other topics, ghosts included, are the theme of a new episode of the NCN podcast where I had the pleasure to talk about my research. Spotify open.spotify.com/episode/1ziCKN… Apple Podcast podcasts.apple.com/pl/podcast/nar

I am part of the 2nd generation born in the so-called "Recovered Territories"– formerly German lands that are now part of Poland. In the spirit of Lower Silesian pride, I'd like to give you an idea of what it means to live surrounded by traces of a foreign population. 🧵🗃️

Some time ago our team started to publish blog posts about the questions we ponder during our research. We write in Czech, Slovak and Polish. Quite frankly, this form of sharing results and concerns is something new for me and I grow to like it! spectralrecycling.ispan.edu.pl/category/blo...
