i really cannot stress enough that i do all my work from start to finish 100% by myself and CBS News is backed by a multi-billion dollar company.

Yes! You literally had the top leadership of ICE there to *serve a warrant* on someone who was stapling fliers on a pole. I am extraordinarily curious what law they eventually allege the guy violated. Harassment? Threats? What crime could this even be? I am genuinely unsure.

To give you some sense of how over the top this operation was, ICE gave Fox News DRONE FOOTAGE of the operation, showing a cavalcade of armored vehicles through the streets of Pasadena to serve a search warrant on a guy whose offense was stapling fliers on power poles with information about LEOs.

Westerners not reading in russian is just the main disconnect in general over the last 10+ years. Like, russians are not subtle in what they say or write in russian.

It’s really interesting how this relatively insignificant in Russia individual became synonymous with historical figures like Ghandi. Guess what: Ghandi actually accomplished something. Ever heard of the country of India?

And it’s clearly not any kind of achievement-based system either. The man’s main accomplishments are creating a website to expose corruption in the Russian economy, having a popular LiveJournal blog in the 2000s, organizing a neo-nazi march in Moscow, and losing a mayoral election.

It’s so painfully obvious, and it’s been a continuous undercurrent for the past century, that a lot of these more conservative institutions, like education systems and various bureaucracies, still really operate on a 19th century model of reality. Mindsets take generations to change.

That said, I think a big reason for Navalny being a celebrity martyr in places west of Poland is simply the fact that he’s Russian. To a Western post-imperial mind (especially in academia), this automatically makes him more important and legitimate than any Ukrainian (or Algerian, or Burmese) hero.

You’re much more willing to give someone the benefit of a doubt if you haven’t been directly exposed to their bullshit.
