Fair enough - I think I misspoke because I have seen "white guilt" written more often than "white shame." Perhaps we can change that? But doesn't shame also lead to action - a reaction, a lashing out? How do we cause guilt rather than shame?

But the face-to-face is vital to any real relationship. Are men.... not supposed to do that at all? This is where I get stuck. Does it keep the hierarchy in place or something? What is driving this avoidance?

I'm gonna keep going - is there an agenda to male friendship? Is that why "women and men can't be friends" - because there has to be an agenda? I'm happy with both the side-by-side and the face-to-face interactions the author talks about. In fact, my preference is side-by-side... most of the time

I totally get it. Just making sure you're okay, since these are crazy times. White guilt not necessary, only white action!

"I can barely stand to look at myself in the mirror because I’m white." As a fellow white person..... are you okay? You need to look in the mirror to brush your hair and teeth.

You both have a point. As another UT Austin alum.... the Board of Regents is appointed by the governor and, as a political body, has gained more and more control over what is allowed at UT Austin. And also the University of Austin was started by different people for a different reason.
