So honored to see 13 WAYS TO SAY GOODBYE on this list of most anticipated queer MG books!

A #poem on the first day of the year.

Nikki Giovanni wrote some of my favorite poems to teach, read, and learn from. What a life she lived. What lucky readers we were to be around to witness her brilliance. ❤️

Incredibly grateful for this first grade review for my next book, 13 WAYS TO SAY GOODBYE.

In 2023, I pre-ordered 12 sapphic books for my wife’s Xmas present, one per month. It brought her JOY…I’d love to do it again! So, help me, what sapphic books are you most excited about for 2025? Her faves include Karelia Stetz-Waters, Olivia Waite, Ashley Herring Blake, Amy Spalding… #sapphicreads

Lots of new followers today which is exciting! So quick intro: I’m Kate, I write queer MG Novels-in-Verse and my next one, 13 WAYS TO SAY GOODBYE (HarperCollins 3/18/35) is a story of grief, sibling loss, first love, ghosts, magic, and Paris. www.harpercollins.com/products/13-...

Here’s where to find me at #NCTE. Hope to see y’all there!

Catch me at #NCTE later this week!! Will I see you there?

I wrote an entire novel in the month of November. So excited and so ready to take a nap.

I'm at 45,222 words. I'm going to make it to 50k by Thursday. I have never had a novel pour out of me so fast, so clearly. Like my heart has a direct line to the source of this story. I am so grateful.

I've crossed over 40k words in my NaNoWriMo project!!!!! This book is so much fun!

I updated my website today and I like to think that somewhere @missdahlelama.dahliaadler.com cheered for me. 🌈

Incredibly grateful for THE SONG OF US making the Boston Globe’s holiday gift giving guide, thanks to PaperCuts JP!! www.bostonglobe.com/2023/11/16/m...

I don't want to jinx it, but I'm on a NaNoWriMo roll like I've never experienced before. Words pouring out of me. Close to 28,000 words already and I've written every single day this month. The key this time around? JOY. The whole book brings my heart such joy.

10,000 words into this new book and it's pouring out of me with big heart, joy, laughter, and all the feels. It's so so so good to feel some joy right now.

Last reminder, this is tonight! Come learn and help raise some money to help some friends and family out. ❤️ www.ericsmithrocks.com/blog/2023/1/...

Shout out to the many people using "twatwaffle" on the regular. I love this matrix of compound pejoratives.

Truly humbled every single time I use Canva. Where did the last two hours of my life go and how am I not even close to done on this one-pager? 🫠

Happy National Coming Out Day from Olivia, Eden, and me. Wherever you are in your coming out journey, I hope you’re safe and hope you’re finding yourself in the stories around you.

Scholastic asks, "Do you want to opt out of 'diverse' books at your school's next book fair?" Your participation in white supremacy has never been easier, just uncheck the 'diverse' books box– poof, no problems. 🙄

Absolutely FUMING over the news that Scholastic is offering their book fairs "free of diversity" by request. I...cannot even tell you the number of ways my heart broke and my brain imploded over this. www.themarysue.com/scholastic-u...

Bluesky friends! I'm desperately seeking recommendations for writing for TV craft books. Anyone have any good titles?! Please share and help me out! 🙂

I liked a single instagram reel of a raccoon happily receiving a belly rub, and now my feed is entirely raccoons being showered with love and...you know what? I don't hate it.

Still feeling over-the-moon proud of my sister, Nora Fussner, who debuted last night at The White Whale Bookstore with her spooky novel, THE INVISIBLE WORLD.

Happy book birthday to my sister!!!!! What a year to be a Fussner!!!! lithub.com/how-nora-fus...

This was my debut year, but it’s also my sister’s!! And now she has a glowing review in the NYT for her horror novel out on Tuesday! www.nytimes.com/2023/09/23/b...

Incredibly honored to have THE SONG OF US included in this roundup of predicted Newbery contenders. To know that a queer kidlit novel in verse based on a Greek myth is finding its way to more kids and librarians thanks to this post means the world to me. afuse8production.slj.com/2023/09/19/n...

Failure to Adapt has become one of my favorite podcasts in the past month. As a writer who loves playing with adaptations, it’s so helpful to see when stories do/don’t adapt well, and to hear hilarious hot takes by @maggietokudahall.bsky.social and @redscott.com. Also Coyote Ugly was an adaptation??

I do not think this batch of young people will forgive the New York Times for what they're doing to their trans friends, and I don't think they should. They're playing a very dangerous game with this bullshit.

This summer I have ✅ promoted my debut novel ✅ reimagined and rewritten my second novel ✅ written a proposal for a third novel in a new genre If anyone needs me this week, I’ll be sleeping, rewatching RHOSLC and cleaning our house. Not a single word in sight.

I’ve connected with some folks on this already but would love to learn more: if you know of any young folks organizing to protect libraries, or working to expand library resources or outreach to teenagers, I’d love to chat with them for a story! [email protected]

The NY Times and other legacy media brands are hellbent on “just asking questions” about the existence of trans people. SELF magazine is the exception, making trans-inclusive journalism a core value. I spoke to the EIC about her mission: thehandbasket.substack.com/p/how-one-ma...

My dog does not care one single Milkbone about my deadline. She wants what she wants when she wants it (in this case, all my attention, right now).

don't mind me, sobbing while re-writing a scene I've written at least 10 times, even though I have sobbed every single time. nothing to see here.

Tomorrow marks 3 months since TSOU came out in the world. Grateful for every reader who has given Olivia and Eden the chance, who has sat with the messy imperfections of middle school kids, who has felt nostalgic for first love and first heartbreak, who has told me as much. O&E, I'm proud of you.
