Sorry you had to wade into urban dictionary! It was a pretty racy book, I made the call that she'd appreciate it...

I recently had an author write about a man's cum gutters without actually using the term cum gutters, and I made a marginal note in which I introduced her to the term cum gutters, which she had not heard before and was delighted to learn.

I had one of each, it was great because smart one's energy was taken up in supporting the ... other one. Now I've got two smart guys and I suspect they're working together to take us down (or at least work out how to open the fridge).

Took Kenta to the vet for a once-over and to get his microchip registered. Medical diagnosis from the vet? "He's perfect."

Keep your eye on Lonely Planet's job ads (redventures.com/careers/brands/lonely-planet ) - I think they'll soon be looking for freelance production editors (DM me for what that entails, it sounds like it would suit you)

I was aghast when I realised I knew the words to Kylie Mole's 'So Excellent', which I surely have not heard since 1988, when I was 16

Doh, of course it's just an anachronism - I thought I'd solved the "later" puzzle (it's 3am here in my defence).
I do gently point these things out to authors - just remind them where the term actually comes from, and suggest alternatives.

I come across "appropriate only for a later time" anachronyms when I'm editing historical fiction ... people backpedal before bicycles were invented, or something is on their radar before there's any such thing.

Ooh that sounds interesting. Taiga's favourite so far is Hachiko (the original, not the Richard Gere version, he does have standards...)

Taiga likes Japanese cinema, especially if there's a Shiba Inu onscreen. (What kind of oodle is beautiful Callisto?)

He was a pretty good boy for the whole trip! Had to be kept separate from another dog on Christmas day but I entirely blame the other dog (also they were introduced in a small, crowded kitchen, which was bound to lead to argy-bargy).

Hope you make it! Climate change on this side of the world means we only got to the in-laws' by taking the long route around the bushfires...

Ugh, the primary teachers I know are ALWAYS getting sick. I'm still trying to shake my month-long cold but I got it from flying to Japan, which doesn't tend to garner much sympathy...

Being just sick enough to not have to go to things is the best. (Hope you're not too sick, and you're 100% once all the events are over!)
