What can we learn from history for the change we need to bring about today? This fantastic new TED talk by @romankrznaric.bsky.social is packed full of inspiration - from ancient Japan to medieval Spain - including on the powerful role of disruptive social movements. www.ted.com/talks/roman_...

The Stone Age didn’t end because we ran out of stone. Society has changed before at the scale we need it to today: but that change was never catalyzed by presidents, PMs, or CEOs of the richest companies of the time. The fossil fuel age won’t end until we ordinary people demand it does.

Hi Bluesky! We're Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL). Get to know us and our work a little better: doughnuteconomics.org/stories/deal... #DoughnutEconomics

Some important wisdom from: @timparrique.bsky.social @kateraworth.bsky.social @proftimjackson.bsky.social @jasonhickel.bsky.social Check out #wellbeingeconomy, #degrowth, #doughnuteconomics if you haven't yet. Technology alone won't save us. We need a new economic approach. #ClimateCrisis

If you know anyone who is into ecological economics + model making + doughnuts then this may well be their ideal next project. Do check it out, or pass it on - the outcomes of this work will be really valuable in remaking economic futures...

If you're interested in post-growth economic thinking, this newly published article will be right up your street. It was a big pleasure to work on it with such a fantastic group of co-authors. Check it out here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The @london.gov.uk has an advisory Commission whose objectives sound a lot like @kateraworth.bsky.social #DoughnutEconomics. What if this was how London worked. "Providing People's Needs Within the Planet's Limits". What a goal.

Extreme wealth threatens our democracy, our planet, and our society as we know it. Over 370 millionaires and billionaires have a message for the world leaders at Davos: draw the line and tax us, the super rich, to save the world. wemustdrawtheline.org

New analysis: If four UK airport expansions including Heathrow are allowed to go ahead, they will cancel out the carbon savings of this government’s clean power plan IN JUST FIVE YEARS. This government must cancel these planned expansions. neweconomics.org/2025/01/airp...

Powerful new report by Oxfam just out... @oxfaminternational.bsky.social check it out here policy-practice.oxfam.org/resources/ta...

Doughnut Economics survived Trump I - in fact it went from being a book of ideas to a buzzing worldwide community of practice. If you want to be part of turning a compelling global vision into local action, join us: it’s time to connect and learn together. Pls RT. doughnuteconomics.org

If you see the atmosphere as a commons - a natural wealth for everyone to access equitably and sustainably - then it's not hard to see how deeply unjust the #COP29 $300bn per year goal from industrialised countries is, when historical responsibilities for excess emissions are taken into account. 1/

Herman Daly died just over two years ago. I still love listening to his clear wisdom - and so enjoyed this conversation with him.

“What will I tell my children when I get back home? You left us for two weeks, for what? For nothing! Not even peanuts!" Tetet Lauron at #COP29 on the text for the #NCQG on #ClimateFinance failing to deliver US$ 1.3 trillion a year whilst the #ClimateCrisis claims lives and livelihoods.

1. I’ve seen a few people state, replying to y'day’s thread, that the left wing is innately respectful, while the right is innately abusive. I’m very much on the left (some would say far left) and have fought rightwing politics all my adult life. But in fairness I don’t think this is wholly true. 🧵

Hey teachers (you brilliant people, you) - if you want to introduce the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries to school students aged 5 to 18 in a playful, embodied and adaptable way, we've got some great tools for you... pls RT! doughnuteconomics.org/foundational...

What can Doughnut Economics learn from History? @romankrznaric.bsky.social and I chatted about it at our kitchen table - and @longnow.org turned it into a fab little film. Check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfUO...

The French city of Grenoble is doing pioneering work in putting Doughnut Economics into practice as a municipality. And they've just shared it in a fab report, in French & English. If you are in need of some inspiration (anyone?) I promise you a good dose here.... www.calameo.com/books/004190...

Over 50 city & municipal governments are embedding the concepts and tools of Doughnut Economics in their strategies, policies and processes - check out how they are getting started with some fantastic peer-to-peer inspiration summed up in our new report.... doughnuteconomics.org/tools/cities...

How do we tap into the larger global audience to make BlueSky a more robust inclusive community & increase engagement? I think we need more government institutions, international & domestic organizations/agencies, NGOs, press/media, journalists, activists, students - more are needed here!

What can Doughnut Economics learn from history? Now there's a big question... The Long Now Foundation recently filmed me & Roman Krznaric having a good chat about it at our kitchen table - join us to watch & live Q&A, Friday 22 Nov, 8pm GMT. Hope to see you there longnow.org/ideas/what-d...

How can contemporary approaches to 'Circular Economy' be enriched by learning from ancient practice? The Ancestral Circular Economy of Hawai'i holds many insights, as set out in this fascinating paper by Kamana Beamer et al. https://ecologyandsociety.org/vol28/iss1/art9/…
