Yesterday one of the most ambitious parking reform bills in the country had it's public hearing. CT's HB 7061- AAC Mandatory Minimum Parking Requirements would be a full-repeal and a BFD if it passed. As a huge thanks, here's highlights of all the supportive written testimony submitted to P&D/

😱

Essential reading from @ginnymonk.bsky.social, as always. There was such an amazing blend of experts and advocates testifying on behalf of parking reform today, but this quote from @katerozen.bsky.social is 🔥 ““I think we have to look at this from a frame of reality” ctmirror.org/2025/02/28/c...

it’s awesome how every single argument against congestion pricing has been directly disproven now that we have hard data

Drivers typically crash into pedestrians who are similar to them in ethnicity and income -- with one big exception: Wealthy drivers often hit low-income pedestrians. doi.org/10.1016/j.tr...

listening to CT transportation legislative committee with DOT commissioner testifying. Rep O’Dea who previously opposed speed cameras now says “i was wrong” and now supports them 100%, wants to fund as many as DOT would like

Applauding the evolution of Rep O'Dea on automated enforcement. He used to be a hard no and today in the transportation committee public hearing, he said "I was wrong" and is talking about how the legislature can fund work zone cameras asap.

If you work on #energy policy in #NewEngland, and even if you don't, check out this great @volts.wtf interview with #Massachusetts DPU Commissioner -- great to hear a utility regulator talking about their pivotal role in reducing #climate pollution. bsky.app/profile/volt...

“There is a very simple way to make our towns and cities nicer: Eliminate parking mandates.” Fantastic piece from @4freedoms.es arguing for parking reform in CT. ctexaminer.com/2025/02/26/a...

Has anyone ever thanked their pet in a paper acknowledge section for staying by their side during their academic writing process? Big shout out to Daisy for joining me for every class, and all of my capstone work.

The Trump admin is causing chaos in transport research. Studies have been canceled, datasets have vanished, and experts have been fired. The Nat'l Academies’ Transportation Research Board has caved to Trump’s demands for censorship, triggering upheaval. Its future is in doubt. From me (w/scoops) 🧵

Every day I am blown away by Connecticut folks' subject matter expertise, advocacy, and passion. This is an unbelievably cool and impactful effort. ctparkingreform.org

The Shoreline East bill comes up in the CGA Transportation Committee public hearing this week and I love to show this slide from ConnDOT from the 2022 CT Commuter Rail Council (now known as CT Public Transportation Council). SLE is the only line that has NOT had their service restored post-COVID.

Oh my god the Pitt this week 😭

@thewaroncars.bsky.social knocked it out of the park with this one.

Are you still adding cancelled projects to the list @kklevine.bsky.social and @alexkarner.bsky.social ? Our "Racial and Socioeconomic Inequities in Active Transportation Safety" just got cancelled. @keawilson.bsky.social this is one of the projects I mentioned apps.trb.org/cmsfeed/TRBN...

“With a 40-8 vote, Bateman’s bill saw significant support from the other side of the aisle.” Parking reform has bipartisan support. Let’s try to keep it that way. www.theurbanist.org/2025/02/20/w...

Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations is reporting that the US DOT has paused the approvals of changes to regional short-term transportation plans (STIPs). Unclear why DOT is requiring general counsel review of STIP amendments. This could delay investment in projects nationwide.

Justice delayed Defendants have to show up to court over and over, wait hours for their case to be called. Years: that's how long cases take to be resolved. Almost no cases go to trial. Hundreds plead guilty each month just to leave prison. "The process is part of the punishment"

With congestion pricing at risk - it's worth revisiting the preliminary impacts of congestion pricing in NYC.

in his statement "cancelling" congestion pricing, sean duffy calls people who ride the subway "an elite few" and i just feel as a communication professional that they gotta decide if they're going with that or crime-ridden drug den homeless shelter

HOT RESEARCH NEWS! Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor... Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵

We had to evacuate this morning due to a fuel leak and the damage in our neighborhood includes multiple downed trees. Public servants that protect our infrastructure and aren’t bought and paid for by the utility companies save lives.
