Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

Writing a cover letter (cuz the whole DOGE fired me shit). Google is suggesting I replace Equity with Equality. Cool move autocorrect

Just a reminder to all the companies/non profits that ended their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts post haste - this was ALWAYS going to lose in the courts, you chose cowardice and hate over justice & people will remember

JUST IN: A judge has enjoined President Trump's effort to block federal funds from going toward grant recipients who engage in DEI practices. The judge says the orgs are likely to succeed on claims that this is viewpoint discrimination, among other issues storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Honestly, what is the point of having all of this power and influence if they won’t use it to defend science and public health?

Hey look! Another incredibly depressing episode of my favorite podcast!

BREAKING: AFSCME, AFGE, UNAC/UHCP, & allies file lawsuit seeking to block the unlawful mass firings of probationary federal employees. “These mass firings are yet another unlawful attempt by this billionaire-run administration to gut public services" said Pres. Saunders

The lab group of Prof. Melissa Bop, Penn State University, is doing a research study on cargo bike users in North America. If you are a cargo bike user and have a minute to take the survey they’d love to hear from you: pennstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... @cathytuttle.bsky.social

Every single vaccine in the childhood schedule has been subjected to the highest level of scrutiny for any medical product. Because vaccines are given to an otherwise healthy population, safety and effectiveness are essential.

In 1999, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., then an environmental lawyer, was named by Time magazine as a “hero of the planet” for his pioneering work to clean up America’s waterways. On his second day as secretary of the DHHS, he ended HHS funding for health and climate change.

is this bad?

Intel appears to be closing in on a plan to break up the company, lining up investment from other tech companies to split its chip design business from its semiconductor manufacturing arm. The effect on Oregon would be seismic.

“Today I am finally free! They may have imprisoned me but they never took my spirit!” said Leonard Peltier. Read more in press release: ndnco.cc/lpreleasedpr

Every news roundup now is like "Top official responsible for keeping the Ancient Ones from devouring us all resigns rather than turn over systems to DOGE; 96 percent of government scientists have been locked in broom closets; black market eggs are your breakfast's new hope"

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

I feel like my bottle refusing baby somehow knew mom would get unceremoniously fired by the trump administration and he’d only have to go to childcare for a month. Anywho, very much grateful for baby cuddles and a fridge to clean and aching for my colleagues

no one ever banned the Associated Press from the White House for not saying "Latinx"

Here is my Federal Employment Termination story:

All of this. My colleagues and I who lost our jobs were either working our asses off at the start of our careers or recently promoted because exceptional performance. Firing probationary staff has nothing to do with efficiency.

Musk firing people and taking their salaries for himself.

(1/4) Recent layoffs of federal workers has a disproportionate impact on Native Americans, but is receiving almost no media attention. In Indian Health Services, which provides healthcare to 2.8 mil NAs, 2,200 people were laid off, including 1,400 who provide direct patient care.

I think it’s important to analyze this activity in terms of power: 1. They are threatening current & future federal employees about what happens if they don’t follow orders 2. Creating openings for loyalists 3. Creating opportunities for privatization 4. Raiding for resources, money and info Etc

Big, growing crowd just west of the U.S. Capitol protesting Trump, Musk and DOGE on President’s Day. “Hey Congress, grow a spine,” they shout, gathering for a rally around the reflecting pool.

these are segregationists.

Thanks for introducing me to this term @micbi.bsky.social

time to dig up the @adamkotsko.bsky.social tweet

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, public health officials in Texas think that there are likely 200-300 people now infected with measles. If confirmed, this outbreak is already out of control. H/t to @mickiemo.bsky.social for the heads up. www.chron.com/news/houston...

When you call your legislators, please include this as one of your talking points. Once again the United States Government is violating their agreements with tribal nations. Shame on them. More in comments. nativenewsonline.net/health/break...

Take Cassidy’s goddamn medical license away.

i am going to put a finer point on this: executive orders are not laws. and they certainly are not royal decrees. they are interpretations of existing law for the purposes of enforcement. the fact that so many people are treating them as laws is actually driving me a bit insane.

Update: 15 confirmed cases. Health officials are racing to offer vaccines to unvaccinated children, they're operating a mobile unit to screen for cases, pre-treating exposed infants. Schools & hospitals are on alert. Measles outbreaks are v hard to contain. A totally preventable situation.

I really wish reporting would stop faithfully citing this “pause and review” line at agencies experiencing impoundment. Every previous administration reviewed programs. The difference is they still executed the law. Pausing spending for “review” is not a thing.

"One month after employees at Sizzle Pie’s original East Burnside Street pizzeria voted to form a union, the Portland-based chain has decided to close that location," Michael Russell reports at @oregonian.com: www.oregonlive.com/dining/2025/...

the “administrative state” in practice is a lot of very hard working, practically anonymous people doing the thankless work of making this country run and a drug-addled dipshit is slandering them in order to steal our money for himself

I think an American flag created entirely by black men at the Superbowl is one of the best pieces of art I've seen in my lifetime. I hope it actually killed some folks. And I hope it finally closes the fucking book on the argument that we shouldn't use the flag to fight the God damned fascists.
