Wheee!: no power since this morning. Power line the backyard was downed by falling limbs, now lying in a small pond of standing water. House is on Gen, but it doesn't cover the stove, laundry, garage, RV pad (where my home/trailer is hooked up) or my office. Brrrrr... Dining table is a lousy desk.

Kinda late, but it's still good news.

Hey, Storm Waters is on the KRL list of favorite books of 2024! kingsriverlife.com/01/25/krl-st...

Eating pistachios in the shell is less 'having a snack' and more 'starting a new hobby'.

I am dependent on Amazon, too, but DAMN I hate their marketplace practices and have tried to avoid giving them my business for 20 years.

the fabulous Cherie Priest has a new book out later this year!

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

😂

We are halfway through the month of January, which means there are only two weeks left before the @specawards.bsky.social start! The nominations and reader volunteer forms close on January 31. Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far. 🙏We can’t wait to officially begin! ✨🏆📚🏆✨ #SSBA

Nancy Leftenant-Colon, who became the first Black nurse in the U.S. Army Air Corps after President Harry S. Truman desegregated it in 1948, has died at age 104.

Definitely should've eaten the Pear of Sense. www.smbc-comics.com/comic/probable

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period? "End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text." This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new! www.nngroup.com/articles/wri...

“Pulpy” is an understatement—yes. When I asked Lilith to write pulp I knew she would set that as the bar and then leap way the heck over it. And she did. Great review for a great book that you should preorder to make your future self happy.

Sheila in the dollhouse, I know, I know, it's serious.

ASL is distinctly better than even the best CC. I'd ask what sort of self-involved asshole doesn't want others to have equal access to information and entertainment, but why be redundant?

Delightful to see the work in progress.

Submissions for our queer sword and sorcery anthology are open until January 15th. 8¢/word. <6000 words. Very keen on tyrant-killing, intimate stakes, unknowable magic, tiny loincloths, sweaty muscles, big thighs. Good to avoid: epic fantasy tropes. More info: www.neonhemlock.com/submissions

Heads up folks! If you're keen on southern gothic haunted house stories and would like to read one of my personal favorites (that I wrote, I mean) - the Kindle edition of THE FAMILY PLOT is on sale for $2.99! www.amazon.com/dp/B01AGBYTEA

One of those days where social media definitely feels like a stock ticker for the apocalypse. Like it's a montage in one of those movies about the end of the world. Anyway! Here's a dog as a "bummer tax."

If you cant afford art, or cant draw or whatever yourself, USE PUBLIC DOMAIN IMAGES NOT AI.

Planet Fitness locations in Los Angeles are “offering anyone impacted by the fires—first responders and residents—free access to shower, recharge, and relax” No membership is required to take advantage of locker rooms, WiFi, charging stations at any LA County location not impacted by the fires.

New here so by way of introduction, my name’s Anthony and I make prints inspired by Britain’s ancient landscape and history. Here’s one of my wood engravings, showing the Cove at Avebury

A good place to start the reading challenge!

Walked into my backyard to find two visitors. The pair! What a blessing. I was able to stand there, talk to them and just be. 🤎 ᏗᎦᏘᏍᎩ - Red-shouldered Hawk

RIP to USMC Cpl. John Kinsel Sr. He passed away at the age of 107. He was one of the last 3 remaining Navajo Code Talkers and served with the 9th Marine Regiment & 3rd Marine Division during the taking of Iwo Jima. Thank you for your service, sir. May the Great Spirit guide your way home.

My Bro-in-law and his kitty. Are they not handsome gents?

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come. ‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair. Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Here's my 2024 roundup of several of the books I read and loved this year, including titles by @veronicaroth.bsky.social @edenrobins.bsky.social @scalzi.com @katrichardson.bsky.social and more. maryrobinettekowal.com/journal/what...

Looking back at 2024 ✨ Without a doubt, my bestselling piece of art was Moon Call, a commission that has gone on to sell big limited edition prints and smaller open edition ones too. #art #magic #fantasyart #drawings #birdart

I would love to be there.

I fully expected Humphrey Bogart to rise from his grave to narrate Storm Waters. @katrichardson.bsky.social has managed to capture that gritty noir feel of post-prohibition Hollywood. Marty Storm is a tortured character, and the mystery takes twists I wasn't expecting. It's a noir and stormy ride.

Library purchases are purchases. They pay the press. The press counts them towards advances and royalties. And (gasp) the book is in a library!! It’s wonderful and no one should ever feel bad about getting a book through a library instead of buying it.

And look what he gave us for Christmas! He is NOT going to let us die in a fire.
